NWN-- game announcement: Saturday morning

Yes, again that was a lot of fun! It's great to have seen this grow so much. I just hope you can fix the bug with Argos... if you need any help, feel free to ask!

I think I figured out the Argos bug... his scripts are all fine, but the problem is that he wouldn't take the herb bag. I believe that the glitch is that I made the bag a "plot" item, so when the script looks for a valid item with that tag to grab and then destroy, it comes back invalid. Anyway, shouldn't affect your game (you're already past his quest), but hopefully the next group won't have that problem.

I've also got an idea about out how I'm going to get around the can't-alter-saved-games problem; once you guys finish the areas in the mod, and if the group still wants to play together, I'm going to create a new version of the central area (Crossroads II) with new NPCs and new conversation trees for current NPCs in the inn. The old area transitions will be closed but you can go into new areas; i.e. the mountain pass.

Should be a nice mini-campaign.

Look for a new game announcement tomorrow morning. I'm thinking about running the game again Sunday morning for new players, and the continuing game for last night's players next Wednesday.

Greetings!

I have two games to announce today. Both are versions of my campaign module, "The Crossroads." I have listed these games at www.neverwinterconnections.com, and I ask that if you want to play that you please sign up for the games at that site. It's very easy and it lets me keep track of who's going to be playing (and send messages, etc. to the players in advance).

GAME 1
I will be running the module for a new group of players on Sunday morning, July 7, at 7:30 a.m. Pacific time. I am scheduling the game for two hours (till approximately the time when my fiancee gets out of bed and I have to make her breakfast ;)). This is a campaign module, but you are welcome to come for a one-shot if you like. I am not password locking the first game so anyone can drop in this time. I do prefer that you sign up at neverwinterconnections, however.

GAME 2
I will be continuing the module for returning players from the July 3 game on Wednesday, July 10, at 7:00 p.m. Pacific time. The game is scheduled for two hours. The game will be password locked (I gave the password to the players at the end of the last game, but will be re-messaging it to players as well). If you are an returning ENWorld player (I think I had three), please sign up at neverwinterconnections for this game. New players may also sign up but you will only be allowed to play if returning players aren't able to attend.

I haven't had any problems with crashing or hangups so far, even with large areas and full parties, but if the server should crash, rejoin and we'll start from the last save.

I host my games in the "Role-Play" section of the matching service. Click on the "Role-Play" option in the category box in the upper left part of the matching service screen to find my game.

Server name: [EN] Lazybones

Module name: The Crossroads

Game type: server characters (so unless you've played with me before, you'll need to create a new 1st level character, or choose one of the defaults, upon entering). Of the four adventures that make up this module, three are for 1st-2nd level characters and one is for 3-4th level characters (don't worry, the areas will be clearly labeled in play). For my ongoing campaign, I've raised the level limit and will adjust the encounter difficulty to match your capabilities as we go.

Enforce Legal Characters: on
Item Level Restrictions: off

Max players: 9 (that includes the DM, so 8 PCs) Actually, I find six players to be about optimal, but I've noticed that attrition is fairly normal so I leave a little extra space.

Game style: cooperative role-playing. I'm not going to start with a default inclusive party, but strongly encourage the players to role-play forming a party. Folks who run off alone will be encouraged to join a party (for some reason, brown bears seem to like attacking lone travelers in this region ;)). If necessary, I can use my DM powers to teleport everyone to the same location, but I'd prefer to avoid doing that.

Feel free to reply if you have questions about either game. Thanks and I look forward to seeing ENWorlders online!

LB

Edit: forgot to mention that the games are at Pacific time (so it's only 7:30 a.m. for you west coasters!).

Sunday's game is full (already!). You're still welcome to drop by and join, if a space opens up. In order to respect those who signed up in advance, I ask that you wait until ten minutes after the start time before attempting to join the server.

Sorry for those who didn't get a chance to read this message and wanted to play. Maybe next time I'll do a ENWorld-only game.

Sunday Game (Small Spoiler)

SPOILER

Great job, Lazybones. Your adventure ably demonstrates the potential of the game engine: I (being on this occasion known as "Pardero") and my adventuring companions had a great time!

Excitement, adventure, grumpy dwarves, and loads of goodies. I liked goblin ambush (with a group clustered behind a locked gate) and many of the set-pieces and little details. The acid-dripping halberd was a fine touch, although I'd think the inkeep might object in no uncertain terms to the damage being done to his hardwood floors.

Keep up the good work -- I hope to return to your little world next Sunday!

Thanks, Farganger/Pardero, I'm glad you had fun. You guys missed all the quests though ;).

Now that I'm using neverwinterconnections, my games are filling up quite rapidly. I'm going to have to start using passwords full-time now since people who sign up are being frozen out and (rightfully) complaining. I still encourage my ENWorld friends to sign up over there; you can set up your account to email you whenever I (or any other DM you like) open up a game for sign-ups. I know when an ENWorlder signs on I'm almost always going to get a good roleplayer; frankly I'm a little tired of the players who don't bother to communicate much with their companions or who run on ahead alone to find something to beat on (they get it... oh, do they get it :D). Still, I'd say I've been quite fortunate in getting good players to play my games.

I may run a "pick-up" game every now and again on the GameSpy servers, my games are always located in the RolePlay section. The module is fully autonomous so I don't have to be there for people to log on and play. "The Crossroads" is primarily designed to be part of a campaign run by a DM, though, and at the moment I'm working on an expansion that should allow the total game to go through 3-4 sessions altogether (allowing PCs to reach 7th-8th level by the end). Who knows, it may even go beyond that...

Hey all, if any of you are browsing this forum tonight (Sunday), I'm going to run my "Crossroads" adventure tonight at 8p.m. Pacific (90 minutes from now). Drop on by and say hello.

It'll be located under Role Play with the server name [EN] Lazybones.

Fiancee's out with friends and I'm a little bored :D. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few players with such short notice.

I'm in campaign mode now, with two groups running the same module on alternating days. We're on the second session through "the Crossroads" now, and I've just finished an add-on mod (central area's the same base with new conversations and quests added in, and seven new areas accessible) that should take both groups to around 8th level. Beyond that... who knows?

NeverwinterConnections is still evolving, but since I've started advertising there I've never had a game that was less than full. Unfortunately that means much less time for "pick up" games with my ENWorld cohorts. There's three or four ENWorlders in my current games, all of whom are great players.

Also, one other notice: for prospective worldbuilders, there's a ton of great scripts now at the NeverwinterVault site, as well as a PDF tutorial of the toolset. NWV also has modules to download, and reviews of many of those modules. I downloaded a certain module that will remain nameless due to certain trademark issues that I will not go into (and this is less than ONE MONTH after the game came out! Imagine what will be available in a few months!). There's also a great FAQ on scripting on the Bioware Neverwinter Community Site, on the messageboards under, not surprisingly, the "scripting" category.
