NWN Tools Beta: In the name of all that's holy!!!

While my group gamed last night (the Savage Sword of Meepo, to be exact), we downloaded the beta of the Neverwinter Nights Tools. Released yesterday evening, the tools are a beta of the application used to construct modules for Neverwinter Nights.

After the game, at about 1:30 in the morning, several of my players traipsed down into the computer lab in the basement, after hearing my yells of glee, to behold the wonder that it is.

Click-and-point intuitive, the tools are easy to use and follow the basic rules that most Microsoft applications follow, such as right-clicking on an object for properties. The graphics are outstanding, as you might expect, and the sheer power of the tool is outstanding.


To wit: I created a dungeon, using the module wizard. I choose the size of the area (which could have been an outdoor town area, but the tile sets released with beta are limited to Ruins and Crypt, I believe. I then added a doorway, rubble-filled room, and then a large chamber with pillars.

To the room, I selected monsters, scrolled down the list, opened golems, and placed an Iron Golem in the room. Right-click on the golem, and access the properties. You can see all of it's 3E stats, in all their glory. Feats, abilities, attributes, character levels and more. I increased his Strength score, and his CR increased AUTOMATICALLY.

Then we backed out, and created an enchanted sword. I made it a vampiric sword (which automatically turned it into a +1) and then gave it the ability to cast Dispel Magic on a hit. I left it's text entry fields for Unidentified and Identified blank, but I did customize the appearance of blade, hilt and pommel.

Then I opened the golem's inventory, and EQUIPPED HIM WITH THE NEW SWORD I'D JUST MADE. I made the sword lootable, but not pickpocketable. I also changed the Spot score and reaction behaviors.

Then I placed a Mummy next to him, and in a tribute to the evening's adventure, gave him 9 levels of monk. I added a human, and then changed him to a half-orc Rog5/Ftr5, changed his model to have ritual tatoos and then placed him as an NPC with a faction status of Defender in the central chamber. Behind him I created a bookcase, made it usable, trapped with a CR 18 poison gas trap, and put a quest/plot item (a fenberry) on the shelf to be taken, should the trap be dealt with.

To say this thing rocks doesn't seem to do it justice. My money burns a hole in my pocket, waiting to purchase the real thing. :D

I think you might just have sold me on this thingie, even though I don't buy many computer games (and similar things) nowadays...
