Our DM is not sure about "Reach" and "Threatening Reach".

He hasnt seen a monster yet with "TR" detailed on it, so he is assuming that any monster that has reach 2, he can OA us if we move within that range.

He's not right is he ?

Might be worth it to say he is, then make a reach 5 character. Hilarity will ensue.

But no, just because a creature has reach does not mean they can make OAs against non-adjacent creatures. That is literally what Threatening Reach is, the ability to make OAs against all creatures in your reach.

Short:

Reach = hit people far away on your turn.
Threatening Reach = OA people far away.

Not from the weapons themselves, no. However as you reach paragon and epic there are certain powers, feats and such for certain classes that I believe will grant you threatening reach on occasion.

Also, Warlords have polearm gamble (gambit?) as a feat for OA with reach, and I guess you could say polearm flanker is "threatening reach" when in flank (but not for when they move).

Polearm Gamble isn't class specific. But be aware that those two things are by no means threatening reach they can emulate parts of the benefits of threatening reach.
