Greetings all,

I am in the proccess of resisting the dark forces of the impulsive buyer in me and not buy the 60 CAN$ oathbound hardcover before knowing what you think about it.

My groups of players run characters of around level 21 to 24.

They are evil and play monsters (Here is a run down of the group):
- 1 vampire Mage 14/fighter2/vampire (+5 ECL)
- 1 vampire Mage 17/ Cleric1 / vampire (+5 ECL)
- 1 Half fiend Sorceror 12 / Fighter 4 / Half fiend (+5 ECL)
- 1 irda ogre Rogue 10 / Mage 6 (Irda +5 ECL)
- 1 Babau demon +2 advancement (21 ECL)

What are your first impression of the possibility of having fun, Challenge and great Roleplaying opportunities in the oathbound setting with character of this power level.

Do any of you think that such characters would have a place in this world. If it is a world that takes heroes from around the planes and take them on this one to battle forces of evil, could it be possible that the evil forces of this plane also would try to do a similar feat?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

from what i ve read so far (60$ really is some big money), all kind of "heros" , not just the good guys, are taken to the forge. Opportunities seem nigh infinite and a good time is certain. I can't really help you out about your specific PCs fitting in and roleplaying, but that is only because I personaly that level of play.

But the book is great. Makes me think (a bit) of a mix between Planescape and Darksun. Nice...

PS: in the book, they recomend running a campaign of at least 7th level characters.

At least 7th level?

Nice, this is a good lead that some power play(Fight against high level characters and monsters and high level political dealings) can be found, or will be found in future supplement.

Interesting...

Thanks

Since a couple of your people are undead, there is an area of the Forge called Eclipse, where it is always dark. There is a city of vampires there called Stygia. It's not very well detailed in the setting book, but there's enough there for some adventure hooks.

Yea, Oathbound would welcome your party - any characters, good or evil, can be drawn in by any one of the Feathered Fowl. :) From the sounds of your party, Barbello might bring them into Anvil or Israfel, if she feels that Penance is in need of some new baddies. ;) The suggestions regarding Ecispse above are dead on (pun intended), so they might be good options also. If nothing else, the Introductory Adventure ALONE is worth the price of the book... (sheepish grin).... :P

Ashy, I see on the credits here that you were involved in the production of Oathbound. Major kudos to you! It's a great setting! I'm planning on starting an online Oathbound campaign as soon as I can get some time to prepare and to finish a closer reading of the book.

I'm reading Oathbound now, and the major NPC's all seem to be 20th level - although their CR's are higher due to "prestige races".
( very cool idea! this section alone makes be glad I got the book! )

Oathbound is a powergamers paradise, although I imagine most people using the setting will not be anywhere near your level...

Any campaign, including this one will take a lot of modification for running that high level of a group. Oathbound could be a fun distraction. Playing at such high level, you will probably wish that ALL the "Black Flock" ( 7 central figures of the setting ) were detailed as much as Israfel's Avatar ( and I'm surprised they weren't! )

Israfel's Avatar:
HP: 540
Abilities: None under 30
CR: listed at 30
