So that's who was behind that OGL thing a few weeks ago...Clearly, Vecna is using the power of the obkisks to break into Earth proper (our world) and then rewrite the OD&D rules so that he can never be defeated in his home multiverse.
I’d bet any money that they won’t do this. I loathed the whole spellplague business as much as anyone, but it’s settled now, FR is in a quasi-status quo ante state, and I don’t think anyone at WotC will be wanting to rake over that old wound. It’s very clear that WotC aren’t really in the world building business any more.Maybe they plan to undo the 4th edition time jump and the Spellplague for the Forgotten Realms? And, since I think they plan to release a Greyhawk book next year, maybe they plan to undo the semi-unpopular Greyhawk Wars alterations?
Or maybe he already did (see: rebooted Ravenloft, rebooted Spelljammer, etc...)I'm betting Vecna will use the Obelisks to "reset" the timeline of all D&D worlds, so the next edition lore can start from a blank state, since RotFM says he used it to erase the Weavers from existence, and you can reset the timeline to before Karsu's Folly with the one present in the adventure.
I you sure there aren’t any in Witchlight?I think the Obelisks are in everybpublished Adventure storyline prior to Witchlight in 2021.
I am not sure, lolI you sure there aren’t any in Witchlight?
They’re not in every adventure but they are in many of them.I think the Obelisks are in everybpublished Adventure storyline prior to Witchlight in 2021.
In C2, the Mighty Nein encounter an obelisk. Though it had a necromancy- rather than abjuration-based aura.EDIT 2: And another one! There's an obelisk of black metal with an abjuration aura near the Aeor Crash Site in the Eiselcross adventure included in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.
Hence storyline: HotDQ covers Tyranny of Dragons, and Mad Mage covers Waterdeep. They’re not in every adventure but they are in many of them.
Curse of Strahd has a ring of standing stones related to druids and some megaliths that I think have something to do with Jeremy Crawford’s homebrew world (aka Barovia’s original homeworld), but none of them are described as being made of black stone or metal, and none give off an aura of abjuration magic.
Hoard of the Dragon Queen has several sets of standing stone portals outside the cult’s hunting lodge but again, none are described as being black obelisks, and while they are active magic portals, they aren’t described as having abjuration auras.
Maybe they plan to undo the 4th edition time jump and the Spellplague for the Forgotten Realms? And, since I think they plan to release a Greyhawk book next year, maybe they plan to undo the semi-unpopular Greyhawk Wars alterations?

You can’t deny it NOW!I was confused for a second because I thought, well, I put an obelisk in one of the War of the Burning Sky adventures, so maybe I'm part of this conspiracy too.
That obelisk magnified magical power so you could cast spells with a range anywhere in the world. It was basically a proto Death Star super laser.
It's clear that Vecna's (AKA WotC CEO) real plot is to use the obelisks to merge the Real World(tm) with the D&D multiverse. They have been setting this up for a long time.

This one was in Utah a few years ago, but not connected to the adventure.
