Obscure Object vs. Nondetection

Isn't it odd that Obscure Object (Sor/Wiz 2) is so *absolute* - "the [scrying attempt] automatically fails" - whereas Nondetection (Sor/Wiz 3) permits the spellcaster of the divination to try to beat the protection with a level roll.

Admittedly, Obscure Object only works on objects, a serious limitation. But as far as objects go, it's much stronger than the higher-level Nondetection. Seems like a glitch in design philosophy to me.

Note also that nondetection works against ANY divination, but obscure object only works against divination(scrying) spells. Nondetection stops you from being picked up by detect magic, detect evil/good, detect thoughts, locate object and many other spells.
