Oddest builds...

I think that'd make them smile even less.

Right now I just took a level of Marshal at 2nd level (after 1st level Knight.) My intent is to go between them fairly freely to build someone who can command the battlefield -- and the fact that both key off of CHA helps nicely in that regard. As an added bonus, I now have a +15 to my Diplomacy check. :)

I told my players at the start of the SCAP that "Monks don't really fit in here."
Rather than come up with a different background that let a monk-style unarmed fighter fit in, she decided to build her own monk.
Of course, she really wanted to have some spells too, so she built a Sorceror/Fighter/Thief/Thief-Acrobat/Shadowdancer combo that somehow managed to work.

Bardbarians are odd builds?

I never seem to play something else. Except for adding rogue, scout or ranger levels. Or druid.

I liked my kobold bard going for world domination. Too bad the gnome illusionist in the party was a weee bit fastrrrr!

Here's an odd one by Sukael:

Wizard 1 (using the Precocious Apprentice feat)/bard 1/binder 1 (using the Improved Binding feat)/ur-priest 1/anima mage 4 (+4 wizard, +4 binder)/sublime chord 1/mystic theurge 9 (+9 sublime chord, +9 ur-priest)/anima mage 5 (+5 wizard, +5 binder)/scion of dantalion 5 (+5 binder).

Wizard 10
Binder 20
Sublime Chord 10
Ur-priest 10

Total level 28

There's one of those in our current party.

But, then, we're all Barbarian Gestalts.

I made a non-gestalt bardbarian, and he was a gnome. Actually turned out to be an okay character, and fun to play.

Gnome Paladin riding around on a Celestial Riding Dog...
I'll raise...

Goblin Cleric of Kord (fullplate/lance/mounted feats) riding on a war-boar with horseshoes of speed.

That little guy kicked ass.

As a GM, I made some awakened ninja vampire apes once. They were the minions of a vampire druid, and were really intended as comic relief and a fun encounter. Then I started rolling grapple checks. Plus the whole ninja thing synergises really well with being a vampire.

The oddest character I've seen in play otherwise was a gnome rogue/illusionist/arcane trickster... but the build wasn't the odd thing, it was how this character acted. Someone hurt real bad? He'd open his greatcoat (well, small greatcoat anyway) and display the impressive array of potions within. "Do you want to buy a potion?" he'd ask, smilingly. Or every time someone was having trouble with a social encounter, he'd "discreetly" walk over and say "psst, want to buy a potion of looooove?"

Dretch Sorcerer 13
BoB - a legend, a wonder, a fall guy
only had one fight before the PbP game folded.
the party also had 2 gargoyles (both advanced to large), a lich (our priest) succubus marshal

BoB was sure that the group was out to find Fran'zLu bens Rod.
the others were sure BoB would be the fall guy. Even his (quasit) familiar was trying to get him whacked.
