Of Hamlets, Vampires, Relics and Darkness

Now before this gets moved, hear (or read) me out.

My PCs are in a small hamlet and i have decided their is a elven vampire in town. I also decided the hamlets priest happens to be alove with a friend of the PC as well.

A plague has desscimated the town and the reason the vampire is there, is because of a relic burried with a paladin.

The PCs are 3.5 ECL and i was curious on the following things:

1. What kind of minions would a Psion (Nomad) 1 Vampire (CR 5) have?

2. Where would the paladin be buried if its surrounded by a few trees, hills and a rather small hamlet.

3. What do i do should the vampire start wiping the floor with them?

And finally ...

4. What would one find in a hamlet?

Well, if you insist ...

1. Vampire Spawn exclusively. Without serious character levels, he's not going to have followers that make the 5th level cutoff - and so, as a result, he's better off converting them to spawn.

2. Without a logical graveyard or serious mountains, I'd say he's just tucked away in the hills someplace. Out of the sight and where people don't travel daily. But if the paladin has a living relative, or a fond acquaintance, there'll be a path of some sort used by the person to tend the grave.

3. Knock 'em out and keep them around. He can use the food, and eventually turn them into spawn. Of course, if these adventurers are at all worthy of the name, the extra time will let them find a way to escape.

4. "a blade both unbated and envenom'd?" A skull named Yorick? No? OK then. In a village this small, there aren't a lot of specialists - almost everyone has their own farm and/or livestock. Probably a few people make extra money because they know how to make barrels or whatnot. Then there's probably a general store of some sort, and probably a one-priest church. I'm starting to picture Walnut Grove here.

When EN had that adventure writing contest with the maps from WotC it had one of a hommlet/villiage map that would be perfect with a cemetary in the woods and all, or you could try Interludes: Brief Expeditions to Bluffside it has a fully fleshed out village just add what you need and viola--yeah I said viola :D

Hope that helps AB.

well no one ever goes to P&P.

And the plague has descimated the hamlet so not many people are around. In fact, what few are around are hiding in their cellars or caged for food.

The vampire is an elven type (Ravenloft) so sunlight doesnt harm him, its just the time between sunrise and the time between sunset.

The paladin has a mausoleum which leads to her tomb underground, trapped of course, b/c she holds the relic to stop the plague.

And what would the townfolk do or say if confronted with the PCs knowing a man came into town and wiped them pretty much all out. They see the dead bodies im sure but they have no clue hes a vampire.
