Official abbreviations for Classes (Core & Prestige)

Okay, mea culpa. I got my formatting confused. With all the writing I've done for Scarred Lands, I got used to the class abbreviation appearing at the beginning of the PrC entry. When the 3.5 DMG didn't have them, I thought they'd gotten rid of them. But looking back, the 3.0 DMG didn't have them either.
My bad.
(I knew about the references in the spell lists, of course, but I had somehow gotten the impression that that was the only place they were appearing anymore. Weird; wonder where I got that?)

Well, it's possible they've gotten rid of them; Underdark (the only other recent WotC book I have at hand) spells class names out, both in character writeups and spell lists. Anybody recall if BoED* spells things out or not?
Perhaps Paizo either hasn't gotten the news, or chooses to retain the abbreviations (as a magazine, the few extra characters they save by putting "Sor4" rather than "sorcerer 4" might matter).
As for the Draconomicon -- well, I'll just wave generally in the direction of the golems in the book (which don't get the size-based bonus hit points) and kind of mumble about the copyediting quality of all WotC books (which, IMO, has gotten worse with 3.5e and later).
Perhaps we should just say that Wizards is perhaps moving away from such abbreviations, but maybe not too far away.

I know I got the idea that 3.5 had abandoned the abbreviations from somewhere. And the BoED does indeed spell out class names in its spell listings.
So I think I was right the first time; just not everyone's gotten the memo yet.

That's an interesting list, Gez... I've never seen "Dwd" for "Dwarven Defender" before. myself.
The trouble with abbreviations is that there's no universal agreement beyond the PH classes. For example, the RPGA uses "Bgd" and "Ddf" for blackguard and dwarven defender, while Dragon magazine uses "Blk" and "Def".

I think Gez's list demonstrated why WotC may be--and should be, IMO--getting away from class abbreviations. It has long since reached the point where keeping track of them is far more trouble from just spelling the suckers out.
