OGL: Faserip?

The project is actually coming along really well. Phil and his crew really have been knocking it out of the park to make it as FASERIP compatible as possible. If you go to the Ronin Arts Forum and check out some of the postings you can find a link for the Preview copy of the Basic rules as well as see all the goings on of what people are doing with it.

You should note that the system HAS NOT been released yet as viable product and there is no OGL attachment yet. That said everything is looking good so far.

I like what I see so far, though I'm not crazy about the re-named traits...

"Brawn" instead of Strength strikes me as kind of silly...

Maybe people could come up with different words that all start with the same letters. Let's see...

Fractiousness (meh...weak)
Athleticism
S... (even weaker :) )
E... (I got nothin)
Rigor
Insight
Power

Well I got half of 'em pretty good. :)

EDIT: Thesaurus.com offers these...

Steam or Substance are listed for S
Energy and Existence for E
Factious for F

Not much better, I'm afraid.

How about:

F= Fightin'
A= Agileness
S= Strongarmedness
E= Exertionability
R= Reckonin'
I= Insightfulness
P= Pimpitude!

Hey, they fit!

:D

Still thinking about this...

F = Fisticuffs or Fracas or Fray (still not great, but better...Fracas is probably the best of these three)
A = Athleticism
S = Sinew
E = Ego (I know, it changes the basic meaning, but you might be able to stretch it)
R = Rigor
I = Insight
P = Power

In a recent attempt one-off excursion into Marvel, my group found that the system was a lot more frustrating than we remembered it just in terms of producing coherent characters that were not too weak nor too powerful without tremendous GM intervention over the randomization process. I would love to see a version of the mechanics that answered this problem, possibly with a point-buy system which would allow us to distinguish, say, characters appropriate for Cat's Paw from characters ready for The Left Hand of Eternity.

Random was just one way to make characters. There was also playing pre-built ones and the modeling method.

Personally, I'm with those who had fun with random. Char gen was like a game in itself.

My most enjoyable Marvel character was a guy I called Rock...as in dumb as. He was incredibly strong though, due to a chemical accident, and he ate rocks. He had one minor illusion power as well, that I said was an army of smurfs...drove the GM mad. :)

I'm not sure there's a point to calling it "FASERIP" if you're going to rename the traits. :)

Agreed. The name has been dropped for that reason (and for the fact that the title kept things a little too far into a legal gray area that I want to avoid).
