Well, the project hit 100% funding. Time to schedule work!

Nice! Are you going to include art with this project? If so, would it be a good idea for folks to continue to make donations to help cover this cost?

We will include artwork and left the site open for donations for another (roughly) 20 days. The plan is to add more to the project if any significant donations come in.

($50 in extra donations, for example, isn't going to have much of an impact.)

this game was awesome if for no other reason than than the huge Marvel Universe for Gamers books that they put out - nice comprehensive stuff!

Well, as the FASERIP system will be OGL, I don't think there will be any reference to the Marvel Comic Book Heroes. That is the only downside to a project like this. FASERIP will have to draw people on its own merits rather than drawing people in with the allure of support from their favorite heroes.

Exactly. We are working hard to build a new system and toolkit that is compatible with the old game. This is not an attempt to take existing copyrights and trademarks and claim them as our own. This project is specifically set to create a compatible system.

Yep. Then you can use all your cool old IP material with anything new that people put out for FASERIP, like adventures or villains.

And if it takes off, I'm sure fans will create FASERIP write-ups of characters that are too new to be in the original material.

And that is really where a project like this comes into it's own. I played the "advanced" rules when they came out and had a great time with them... When I was in junior high school. These rules were elegant for the time they were written and continued to be used by people because the rules came in a "staple bound" book that was quick to read and kept the emphasis on role playing. You could craft a great story set in the Marvel Universe and instead of needing a rules tutor to make sure you had everything straight, you could read the rules and get going in a single afternoon.

The project could see great success because much like OSRIC is doing for old school rules, FASERIP could show that these rules have a lot of merit and can still be used to craft great games. The only times I have seen FASRIP mentioned in the last 20 years is on forum posts that point to places like Classic Marvel dot com and Marvel RPG dot com. It will be nice to see the system actively promoted to a new group of gamers. We won't see people flocking in waves but it has generated some interest in a few people who had no idea what it was.

Definately looking forward to what people do with it as well.

Walt
