Oh dear.... not another one/knife-wielding lingerie theft case

The group of Shadowrunners approach a desk. The only source of light is a lamp that keeps the face of the employer behind a mask of shadows.

The employer blows a cloud of very expensive smoke -what's left of one of the last Cuban cigars- and speaks:

"I need you to... adquire two sets of bras, knickers, suspender belts and stockings from a rival company..."
 Perfect!
Gotta remember that for my next Shadowrun game!

That wasn't a quote. The dude probably did say "wakizashi" (or even "tanto", since he was only wielding a knife), but the BBC ain't claiming otherwise.

It saves space. Explaining what a wakizashi is isn't germane to the story.

Or perhaps the BBC got sick of katana fanboy flamewars and banned the term. ;)

I call BS! "small Japanese sword"? I really doubt the guy said "small Japanese sword". Most likely, it was the news who took the word Wakizashi out.

Agreed. Any guy getting caught and using a female elf defense has got to have more pride than call it a "small Japanese sword."

Sad that that it what sticks out as strange or out of place in this story. :\

Ah yes, the tragedy of FLARPers...
I'm not sure he is a LARPer. I think he's a table-top RPGer who dillusionally believes himself to be his PC (at least that's what he is claiming as his defence).

I hope he loses the case as this will exonerate RPGs. If he wins, the media will jump at the chance to blame RPGs, conveniently ignoring this guy's underlying psychiatric problems as the cause of his aberrant behaviour.

Edit: His defence was rejected and he's been found guilty: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6430683.stm

As the case relates to the community of RPGamers, I'm not convinced that it's off-topic and warranted being moved to the Off Topic forum. After all, threads on FLGS and those about RPG industry luminaries - which also relate to the community of gamers - are in the General forum.

The whole story is strange, but this is out of character for the kind of guy they describe, that's all.
