Oh fie.

Could be worse, though. But it's not great. Games make life worthwhile. I'm writing TFT right now, and I'm almost done.

Dude, you reply really fast.

I've got a war going on in my game that I'm running here at college. Neither side is inherently evil, just out for their own interests. I've discovered from this game that good PCs are too smart to take sides.

So, is this a good or a bad thing? Is this attached to the moral problem you posted about a while back? So, did you want them to take a side?

I'm thinking of running a game within my game, to cheer myself up. I'm going to think about gaming, not about whatever bad stuff is going on. You should too. If you're upset about something, just remember that you've got a game coming in a week or two, so cheer up, and don't complain about the bad stuff.

Good advice if I have ever heard any, just as long as you don't forget to find solutions to the bad things.

If you really want them to take sides, give them consequences for staying out. Just because both sides are roughly equal to each other is not necessarily an excuse for apathy or trying to avoid conflict at all costs. It matters little to seak peace after the various factions have already killed each other fighting over whatever the war is over. Taking no side might be worse for the people than just choosing one, but, then again, maybe not.

Perhaps a new approach might be to encourage the players to make their own faction.

Or get them involved without taking a side. You can trick them into doing something that helps/hinders one side. They don't need to be on any side as long as it looks like they are.

I had a thought on this - couldn't you just make the War itself the evil they're fighting against. Instead of picking sides, let the party work to end it and bring peace to the two races, etc and so forth. Rescuing refugee's, trying to divert armies who insist on using the local village as a skermish ground, protecting enclaves of healers who work for both sides indescriminately, lots of people running around screaming "Wont somebody think of the children..."

Or you could just solve the whole war based on a Bhaly game :)
