Oh Man, Is This Party Screwed

Has anyone else had a party this screwed??

Four pcs. One gets paralyzed by spider eater. One is blinded by blinding sickness. None of them are divine casters.

Ouch.

This, btw, was the halfling party I run by the end of last night's game.

Very ouch. I've got something close:

Ran a one shot back before Christmas...four 18th level PCs. Two Mind Flayer Sorcerers. Both of the Illithids had Improved Invis up...Dispel had been used already, so the two Illithids picked off the PCs one by one, moving so that everyone was going crazy. Amazingly, only ONE PC died. The mage just got angry and started dropping Meteor Storms everywhere.

Hobb .. um halflings tend to get paralyzed by spiders .. um eaters. Hopefully his companion can carry the ring ;)

I had a group that had climbed up a huge cliff in a complex of caves and while up there they suffered so much Strength damage that some of them turtled from the weight of their armor. With the reduced Strength it was neigh impossible to make the climb down and they were out of food. They ended up pushing through the dungeon with an average of 4 Strength in hopes they could find food or another exit before they had to start thinking about a very, very bad way of surviving.

It is amazing that my players keep coming back for more abuse.

Last session. Five 4th-level PCs.

All but one (a rogue/swashbuckler) affected by insanity, as per the spell, from a barrow-wight (Tome of Horrors) on a road in the wilderness.

Does that compete for "being screwed"?

My World's Largest Dungeon group last session almost resulted in a TPK. Shadows can be downright lethal when run right. The paladin fell first becoming a shadow himself. A short time later, the necromancer falls, the fighter/cleric falls, the goliath cleric is knocked down to strength 5, and only the monk and rogue escape untouched. For now...

How's having one character die and then have a high level magic item (I think it was Fireball related, prolly a necklace of missiles fully charged) fail its save to avoid descruction and blow up... one character's death resulted in the death of two others.. it was ugly (whats sad sapposably the player of one of the other characters the died in the chain reaction blames me <the guy who had the item and was making its save rolls> for getting his character killed, Not like I expected or planned on becoming ground zero of the equivalent of a couple of meteor strikes!). Though I must confess since hte encounter took place on a plain that the image of one of the baddies flinging a spell at long range which after an initial explosion mushrooms into something bigger does look disturbingly cinimatic.

<note: this was back in 2nd ed. days>

Not if the rogue finds a scroll of (one of) the right spell(s). You DO have a rogue with UMD, riiiight? I mean, these are halflings.

Not exactly screwed, but we once had a character drained of a couple of points of charisma. It was the favoured soul of the party. She had restoration. But wasn't cute enough to cast it any more....

Took some time to find someone who could undrain her.
