Oh the life of a barbarian!!!

Azazu

First Post
I know this has probably been asked before but what type of bonus are the strength and con mods from a Barbaric Rage??

Also what, if any, are some good prestige classes for barbarians,

and finally, what are good feat choices for barbarians.

I am looking for some good ideas for a barbarian character.

If you can supply a good build please do.

34 Points, preferably a dwarf. 10th level. 49k treasure.

thanks

Good feat choices for a barbarian? Weapon Focus, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Improved Critical, Power Critical...

Barbarian Rage bonuses are unnamed. They stack with everything. Prestige Classes: Frenzied Berserker.

Dwarf barbarian?

34 point buy

Con 18 = 16 points
18 points left, go wild ;)
(I'd suggest str 14, dex 12, int 12, wis 10, cha 8, but thats just for general purposes with no thought involved)

con 18 +2 racial = 20

Toughness (sucks, see if dm will change it to something useful, if not thats ok)
Roll With It (as many times as possible)

Possibly - Cumbrous Dodge, Cumbrous Will, Pain Mastery, Extended Rage, Extra Rage

Make sure to get a +6 con item ;) tons of hp, you rage forever, and you can take the hits like no one else.

Or for extra strangeness:
Str 18 +2 level +6 item = 26
30+while raging

Improved unarmed strike, power attack, Thunder Clap (randomly deafen and knock down your foes you mighty dwarf you..lol)

Otherwise there are lots of broken barb builds on this site.. these are just fun ideas ;)

Just a suggestion, it's a character I'd like to play. It's certainly not optimal.

Str 14
Con 22 (18+2 racial +2 levels)
Dex 14
Int 8
Wis 14
Cha 6

Feats: Toughness, Roll With It, Roll With It, Roll with It!

DR 8/- at 10th level is nothing to scoff at, and it will just keep adding up.

Get an armor like Studded Leather +1 with Heavy Fortification (and convince the mage to add ghost touch on it some day).

Any +2 weapon, or maybe an adamantite one if 3.5e pricing allows it.

Roll With It is a general feat from Savage Species. With prerequisites 20 Con and Toughness, it gives 2/- damage reduction that may be taken multiple times and stacks with itself. Is it balanced? Who knows.

Oh, and some people argue that it doesn't stack with DR from class abilities, but I think those people are silly.

Here are my feat choices for a barbarian:

Power Attack and Cleave are must-have feats for a barbarian, and should probably be your first two feat choices. As a barbarian, you'll probably want to fight with a two-handed weapon (greatsword or greataxe), and the 3.5e version of power attack will allow you to absolutely butcher enemies with low AC.

Great Cleave is an excellent barbarian feat if you know that your DM will be throwing hordes of weak enemies at you. You should consult with your DM and ask him if he plans on throwing lots of cannon fodder at you.

I've found that Combat Reflexes can be a useful feat in combats with large numbers of combatants.

Iron Will and Lightning Reflexes are both good feats for the barbarian if you can't decide what else to take.

Improved Critical (Greatsword) or Improved Critical (Greataxe) will increase your damage output over time.

There are some good barbarian feats from the splatbook Masters of the Wild, such as Extended Rage and Power Critical. Check with your DM and ask if he'll allow those feats.

There are a lot of nice Barbarian/Fighter concepts. I am rather fond of the Spiked Chain Trip route. Rage has nice synergies with two-handed weapons, Cleave + reach weapon, and trip checks.

DR 2/- is okay. DR 4/- is still okay. DR 8/- is probably getting too much, and DR 10/- is OTT. Although you could argue that spending six feats including Toughness might be enough to counterbalance it, I'd rather not risk someone actually going all that way. A hyperspecialised character creates problems for everyone.
