Ok Australia. This makes up for the Crocodile Hunter.

Exactly - quantum entanglement is the "you" in your analogy.

The original photon is destroyed in the process, but the copy is identical in all ways, so in theory, it is the original.

That's why something like this on the atomic level (say, being able to do this to a hydrogen atom) will be a major breakthrough.

Read Michael Crichton's book TImeline for a fascinating treatment of this.

The way it sounds though, it wouldnt be ME that got transported. It would be an exact copy, so I would be dead but I would have a clone.

So I would be dead, but I would be alive, though it wouldnt be me! Or something like that....

but how else would you propose them to do it?

to pulverize you into a bajillion zillion pieces and send each individual piece through the air and into a receiver that reconstructs you?

What happens if you lose a piece? would it still be you? would you explode because the process was not complete leaving a void in the space that would have been occupied by that one atom? would you be you- with little microscopic holes all over your body?

thi is the first step- they never said they are able transport matter- but light. And light is just...light...
What's the difference between this photon and that photon? almost nothign...
