OK, I ignored my own advice and decided to be stupid...

You know those internet sites with jokes, funny pictures, etc, with questionable ads and such? The type you're not supposed to go to because they can put spyware, adware, malware, viruses, and all sorts of other fun stuff on your computer? The type of site that i know damn well not to go to and tell other people not to go to, but for some reason did it anyway a few days ago?

So, well, i must depend on the kindness of strangers to reverse my own stupidity. ;) Something got into my computer that causes random popup ads to appear at seemingly random times. I've tried to clean it out with adaware and even Symantec, but the durn thing is evading them. What can i do to help myself? :)

AdAware (from LavaSoft) has done good work for me in the past in removing similar stuff; there's others, but AdAware is free. :)

I had that happen once. I ended up having to click on the link. Write down the name of the company it sent me to. Then went to McAfee's web site (since I use McAfee) and did a search there. In the database they had detailed instructions on how to remove that specif companies virus. It took a long ass time to purge my system and I had to do the steps three times. But it did eventualy clean it from my system.

Best of wishes with cleaning the problem. Its a major butt pain.

like i said, adaware wasn't getting it done... it was removing symptoms without curing the disease.

BOZ, Kaspersky has a free online scanner and it is very good at finding pesky items. I think it cleans as well.

TrendMicro has a indepth - free - online virus/malware/adaware scan as well and I know they clean; they also have a free CW Shredder that I strongly recommend running as well. If your going to do the virus scan just be aware it will take awhile.

Try Spybot Search and Destroy as well....

Catches some things that Adaware misses.
