OK, WTF's up with my game store?

We got in the new KoDt on friday, same time as Dragon 315. Both still going strong. Maybe their supplier is a comic distributor, not a game distributor? We get ours from the gaming side.

I asked him about KODT. He said, and I quote: "Kenzerco's going bankrupt." Now, he's always been a bit of doomsayer, although with Kenzer it seems plausible. Any truth to this? If they screw up my Knights fix so they can put out the umpteenth stupidly-titled rehash of some module I didn't want to buy 15 years ago, there's going to be some 'splaining to do.

Man, I wish I'd known so I can go look for another job. :) :) :)

Seriously, though... Your shop owner's definitely a doomsayer. KoDT #86 and K.Ill #29 just came out last week! If he's actually ordering them through Diamond, then he should get them the same week as every other retailer. If he's ordering his comics through a game distributor, however, he might get them almost simultaneously or much later. It's possible he just forgets (or doesn't care) to order stuff, and then blames someone higher up the distribution chain when you complain. I worked in comic/gaming stores for 7 years, so I know how it goes.

Now, I have to ask "why does it seem plausible?" If you've been checking out our website and discussion forums (and shame on you if you haven't), you'll see the release schedule, and also that everyone from David Kenzer to the lowliest intern often posts updates or answers to questions about what's going on with us. Kenzer and Company's been around for over a decade, and we don't intend to stop now! :)

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

My first thought was that the store may be having trouble with a magazine supplier -- I don't know if Kenzer & Co deals with the likes of Ingram Periodicals, but I've learned through bitter experience that magazine distributors can be twits when dealing with small accounts.

Based on the manager's comment, though, I can tell you right away what the problem is: your LGS sucks. They're either having severe cash flow difficulties and are cutting orders to the bone, or they're not getting in magazine orders before the distributors' shelves are entry.

The latter is probably more likely -- some of my distributors are ordering tighter on various periodicals, and there have been some issues that I've wanted to reorder and haven't been able to restock immediately. I've had no trouble getting initial orders in, though, and have always been able to round up the restocks in one place or another.

So they just suck, and are (as Mark pointed out) lying to you as a way of covering that up. SOP in the game hobby.

cheers,

Yes, it would seriously suck to lose a desent comedy bookied in exchange for *shudder* HackMaster. That's like the doctor saying "Well, we cut off both your testicles by mistake during the surgury, but on the up side, we've sewn a rapid squid in their place!"

Your saying that like it is a bad thing. You can never have too many rabid squids sewn to your body.

Long live the Great Old One.
