I'm pretty much a noob at this whole gaming thing, and I could use a little help. I'm trying to think of a race and class to go for the 4E, but I'm not sure of all the races/classes/whatever else I may need to know. I'm THINKING of being a female dwarven fighter, but I don't know he characteristics and what not. So I was wondering if someone could direct me to a site (or a part of this one) that could help me out? Thanks in advance!

Well, while some info has been released you might want to wait a month till the books actually come out. Then you will have the full set of options in front of you. If you goto the 4e forums you can find what has been released gathered by some of the fans.

Hey, welcome!

Head here. The pdf you can download in this thread has everything we currently know about 4e. Lots of the race info is in there. You may find it a fun read.

Advantages by race (assuming you want to play a charcter of your own gender):

Dragonborn: Dragonboobs. As discussed here.
Dwarf: Facial Hair. May be campaign dependant.
Eladrin: Special effect hair.
Elf: Pointy ears.
Half-Elf: Kinda-pointy ears.
Halfling: Nimble little mink.
Human: Don't have to pay for drinks.
Tiefling: Tail.

:D

First, welcome to the boards.

Second, besides the info provided above, you should also talk to the person who is supposed to be the DM. If he or she is like most DMs, there will be some unique variations in the campaign that you should know about.
