I actually don't think it works that way, or does it?

Isn't it that you can only use it once (have to state how many cards, draw them, and then you can never use it again). At least that's how I remember it, but havn't really looked it up. :)

Anyways, the list is in the DMG, I don't think you should know that, tho. :p

Ask your DM if he is going to show it to you. :)

"Hey Mister Demon Tell ya what, I got a really nice game for ya, Pick a card any card...And Look at it...Wow you Got alignment Change..Wanna be My friend?"
Nope it's Not in the 3rd edition DMG...and I did get the card (Trident) I just wanna know if It's gonna turn Me into a fish or it just helps Me breathe water and swim alot better.

But Thanee is correct about the manner of drawing cards. You have* to declare how many cards you will dray before you draw any. If you announce more cards than you draw the rest come flipping out of the deck automatically. Also each drawn card is replaced in the deck after it is drawn (except the Fool and the Jester - I think that's what its called). Somewhere around here is a thread about the DoMT, and the general consensus seems to be that it is often a campaign breaker. Basically you've got a 50/50 chance of getting a good draw.

That said, next Saturday my group is doing their draw from the DoMT. <evil grin>.

* As always Rule 0 supersedes this.

careful there, the deck is a quick and easy way to destroy a campaign.

If you are going to use it I would suggest heavy modifications, there are lots of threads about it in houserules ;)

:)

Thank
Monte
, they're playing
Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
.

I've haven't used one as a DM for years... decades almost (okay like 15 years, that's pretty close to decades isn't it?). I know the players have been agonizing over it for the last couple weeks and we meet next weekend. A few people are going to draw single cards, one or two may draw two, they may bypass it entirely.

I'm not too worried about the results on the campaign, this was my 3.0/3.5 "test campaign". Disasterous results will only kill the party, and as terrible as that sounds, my players are pretty accepting of it. Fortunately, they all have alternate characters, some of whom are active in the campaign and should the DoMT destroy a few/some/many/all of those drawing from it, it doesn't sidetrack to much.

Thanks for the advice though ;)

We encountered one, a long time ago (1st ed, I think). It was right after the dragon issue which printed the deck on card stock, and you could cut it out and shuffle it.

I think I pulled the maximum... and not a bad thing happened - got the magic weapon card, and the experience card, and like the treasure card or something.

My friend (the monk) got the death card.

and promptly kicked its ass.

Ahh, the good ol' days.

I used it a few weeks back and they had some okay draws. Both got to protect themselves from death once, one got a major enemy, and the other got a nice little stat bonus.

no doubt, the new death card is full of the suck for players :). Plus the Sun card (I think) grants you a medium wondrous item and 50,000 XP. I've got to check if that's errata'd or not, but the amount is insane. (I think the rule re: gaining XP to advance more than one level at a time are still in effect in 3.5 - you gain your level and are 1 XP shy of next level, all extra XP are lost.)
