Old D&D books you still use

Van Richten's various guides (especially vampires/liches/ghosts)-just too handy to use to creep out players mechanics-wise, and simply perfect for getting into the mindset of the appropriate critter.

I get a lot of mileage out of the first FR boxed set and the FRA hardback, as well as my old FR maps -- all of those are on my "frequent use" shelf with my 3.0 & 3.5e books. ;)

The region guides (Red Wizards of Thay, etc.) also see some use, mainly for idea-mining.

I am in this boat if I had my old Planescape it would be hella used... all the time, I used the hell out of Well of Worlds, some nice fun adventures in there ;)

If WotC read half the threads I seem to notice here on Enworld, they'd be jumping over themselves to republish the Planescape setting. Maybe if I win the lottery I can buy the license. ;)

Most of ya will probably laugh but the oldest book I still refer to is "The Complete Barbarian"!!! I know, I know but it was first D&D book that I purchased and I'm still lovin' it. The Monkey bones is the most hysterical Magic Item ever and ya gotta love those Spirit Arrows!!!!

:]

I use a fair amount of old stuff:

-Planescape stuff has been useful in the past (specifically the old boxed set, Planewalker's handbook, and Monstrous Compedium I've used the most, although I've also used the Factol's Manifesto, the Hellbound boxed set, and A Guide to Sigil in the past).

-a lot of the 2E Monstrous Compendiums, especially the annual ones

-Van Richten's Guides, perfect thing for customizing monsters.

-When running the FR game, I get a lot of use out of the old Faiths and Avatars that has quite a bit of setting/god info that they couldn't fit in the 3E one.

-I just finished a beholder adventure that I used quite a lot of information from the 2E beholder Monstrous Arcana book; IIRC, Eye, Tyrant was the name of it.

1e DMG
Dragon CD
Old Dungeon mags
The City of Greyhawk boxed set - the map is beautiful and the encounter/adventure cards are convenient
Old modules, mainly Bone Hill, Ravenloft, Mordenkainen's Fantastic Adventure (looking forward to the sort-of update of this in Dungeon)

For DMing:

AD&D 1e Monster Manual
AD&D 1e Players Handbook
AD&D 1e Dungeon Masters Guide
AD&D 1e Monster Manual II

AD&D 1.5e Unearthed Arcana ;)

On the shelf collecting dust:

Everything AD&D 2e
Everything D&D 3e except:

For playing, in one other campaign in my group:

D&D 3e Players Handbook
