Old D&D Minis

K_Peterson

First Post
Hello.

I'm looking to pick up some D&D minis that I think are from a production prior to Chainmail. Trying to find out if there are any online sellers that might still carry them.

Basically, a few years ago I picked up some minis off of Ebay. Specifically, a pack or two of Kobolds and some Chainmail Drow. The Kobold models are particularly cool, armed with spears, or short sword and crossbow. They're also well-armored. I'd like to snag a few more packs if I can find them, and check to see what other nonhumans might look spiffy.

Ebay isn't so helpful these days; the only results I get are for new D&D plastics, Harbinger and Dragoneye, (which I don't like). Reaper minis are another option, which I'll look at if I have no luck in this endeavor.

Anyone have any helpful info?

When you say Chainmail, do you mean the original Chainmail, or the current.

As far as I know the first company to hold the D&D and AD&D license was Grenadier (70's), which was followed by Games Workshop (early to mid 80's) which was followed by Ral Partha (late 80's to early 90's). After Ral Partha I haven't followed the miniatures market.

citadel also did some minis pre-this edition.

as did Heritage, RAFM, Superior, Grenadier, Ral Partha, Games Workshop, and even TSR Hobbies.

From your description, they sound like the D&D Minis that came out around the same time 3e was released. I've got a few packs of those Kobolds at home, but since I'm at work now, I can't check them to tell you what the stock #s were or anything helpful.

Sorry about the lack of clarity.

Yep, I meant the more recent version of Chainmail that was released, what?, 2000, 2001.

Cthulu's Librarian: If you happen to determine the manufacturer and any stock information that would be a great help. Many Thanks!

If we are thinking of the same ones, they were manufactured by WotC just before the release of Chainmail (they released a line of minis for the Iconic Characters, and a few monsters). When Chainmail came out, they discontinued this line of minis. I'll try to check mine tonight.

Yep. Pre-Chainmail minis indeed.

It took some Googling but I found them : Kobolds

Now, I have to see if I can find an online retailer (in the US) that might carry them and the rest of the old D&D mini line.

Well, it looks as if I've found an answer to my own question.

Looks like a company called Noble Knight Games still carries some of the 3rd edition D&D miniatures.

Thanks to everyone for the input.
