"Borg" - the Fighter character on the sample character sheet in the char-gen section of Moldvay Basic.

"Ulo Ironbeard" (dwarf), "Kras Tree-tall" (fighter), "Theodorus the Wise" (M-U), "Nimble Deantha" (thief) and "Rothgar the Mighty" (fighter with high Charisma) from chapter 4 of the Cook Expert booklet. They starred in the example of organizing a party for an overland expedition.

Cool points for whoever can tell us what special preparations had to be made for Ulo Ironbeard (without looking)! :D

What were the names of the characters in the one page comic-strip style ad for the game that was in comics?
Valerius the fighter, Grimslade (cool name) the magic-user, Saren the cleric/chick, and a hapless elf whose name I always forget! Also mentioned was Oakthorn (a shapeshifter) and Grimslade's mentor, whose name also escapes me.

The elf was named Indel. I loved those comic strips.

Does anyone remember Bromley Falco or Beetle Farhills? I don't remember which adventure(s) they were from. I also remember Li Hon, a monk from Ghost Tower of Inverness. I know these aren't core, but fond memories anyway.

Fredrik 1st level Dwarf
Sister Rebecca 1st level Cleric
Black Dougal 2nd level Thief

We loved that Crew:)

We thought it was shame the Black Dougla bit the dust as quickly as he did. He had the second coolest name:)

From the Moldvay Basic set:
Morgan Ironwolf 1st level Fighter
Silverleaf 2nd level Elf
Fredrik 1st level Dwarf
Sister Rebecca 1st level Cleric
Black Dougal 2nd level Thief

Interesting trivia note....Apparently, Morgan Ironwolf spontaneously drops a level between the Example of Play and the Example of Combat, as she's described as 2nd level in the interlude where Black Dougal bites the dust, but 1st level immediately afterward when the remainder of the group fights the hobgoblins.
