Old Games That Should Be Remade

Games I would love to see remade, and how:

X-Com: First person networkable shooter, complete with destroyable sets, just like in the strategy game. Keep the strategy and technology component of the game, but allow either shifting agent perspectives, or LAN gaming to let you and your buddies BE a group of defenders. (And let another group be the Aliens, if they want!)

Ultima 4: 3-D perspective game with the same depth of gameplay and ethics rquired. All later Ultimas, you were the avatar no matter how bad you were; in Ultima 4, you had to EARN it, and KEEP it.

Syndicate: Done in the style of Black & White, being able to zoom in and out, and giving your agents orders. There hasn't been a good organized crime game since Mafia.

Pirates: Sid Meier has just made my dreams come true. I have to go research this one right away.

I'd like Archon, Seven Cities of Gold, possibly the Bard's Tales games, Missile Command (but only with a trackball required), and probably a whole bunch more that had the right idea but that I've gone back lately and looked at through an emulator's eyes and 20 years of passing and realized how shallow they were. I'd love Colonization too, which would probably play on at least one of my PCs that I don't turn on anymore. I'd love some of the BBS games I used to have on my BBS too, like Trade Wars and the simple play by message Risk game we used to run, but that's probably more wishing that I was young and thin again more than an actual credit of the games. ELITE is something that should get a worthy successor too, but really the only people making quality games based on that particular era nowadays is Nintendo right? Mario and Donkey Kong, live on? Asteroids is still about the most fun you can play on a big screen tv with a bunch of your friends through a Xbox I think.

A lot of the games I'd like to see reworked are quite old--heck, many (if not all) of them were made back of the days of various computer systems (C-64, Apple, Tandy, etc.).

Wasteland: The only post-apocalyptic game I really enjoyed playing (before the joys of Fallout). Heck, a Wasteland game using the Fallout system would be great!

Ultima Series: The "middle trilogy" (4 thru 6) were my particular favorites, but the story's are basically good solid ones. I think the concept/plotline throughout the games could be enhanced a bit, as well.

Might & Magic Series: Another fun game series (esp. 1 & 2). And, one of the first multi-party games I've played.

Zork Series: It's just a fun place to play. A lot of the D&Disms are explained (quite humorously, to an extent), and I think it'd have a fair amount of potential.

Times of Lore: A personal favorite of mine. Slight Ultima fele graphics-wise, but a bit more boiled down--may make a great console game (Bad Blood, as well).

Pretty much all the ones mentioned above, but definitely XCom, Steel Panthers, and Star Control would top the list.

In addition, Ultima Underworld updated with modern graphics, etc (it'd be like a medieval System Shock 2...)

The Crusader games.

Starflight! This would be my #2 right after XCom. It was the first game to grab hold of me and not let me go until I completed it. I remember the first time I played it and found that there was a time limit to your mission; came back to homeworld to find it wiped clean by solar flares due to my failure. Sat and stared at the TV (was playing it on a C64 :) ) for about 5 minutes, felt like I'd been punched in the gut :) Good times!

One old title that I think should be brought back would be M.U.L.E. Anyone else besides me remember that little gem from the C64 days?
i played it on the NES. i think my cousin and me played it for hours, never beat it untill we got game genie though

In no particular order:

X-Com: UFO Defense
Wasteland (I still play the original version - gotta love AK-97's and full auto :D)
Might and Magic I, II, and Xeen
Ultima IV
Breach II
Carriers at War (great, great naval combat game by SSG)

Sierra's old Quest for Glory series. I love those games.

Yes! I agree. I would love to see all of the Quest for Glory games revamped for current technology, but keep the same sort of interface. I liked the ability to play the same character from start to finish. Playing the Paldain was hard unless you wished for honor points with the Genie; but I eventually had it so when I played #4 I had enough points in every class ability that I could pick what class I wanted to be using the same character.

Those games were the best games I have played in the genre.

Oy, Quest for Glory... I had the collection, once. I think I gave it away. :(

I also had the King's Quest collection...

Just TRY to get them, nowadays. If you can find them for under $100, I'd be surprised...
