Old timer coming back to the game

HeyJoe

First Post
All of this 4th edition talk does have me intrigued. I started playing AD&D back in 1980 and played obsessively through junior and senior high, and then also during my time in the Navy.

Unfortunately, when I got out of the Navy, my time became more and more limited, and it simply was impractical for me to get together with a group of friends every week for a gaming session... so I turned to computer games to fill the void. Nothing however has matched that feeling of interaction and fun that I had in those old AD&D sessions.

The online components of 4e are frankly what has me interested, and I'm hoping that it can rekindle my involvement in D&D as it is today. I never even played 3e or 3.5, so I'll be jumping from "old school" AD&D straight into the 4th edition!

I'm just curious... are there any others out there who are coming back to the game after a long absence?

Four years of absence for me, both in EN World and in D&D gaming in general (I've continuated to buy and read D&D books, but no playing last years, I've played other games but no D&D :( ). 4e announcement has made me to come back.

Yep, I've purchased a few of the rulebooks over the years, in particular the Sword & Sorcery sourcebooks for both Everquest as an D&D setting and World of Warcraft. I also picked up a few odds and ends like The Wheel of Time sourcebook and the Game of Thrones setting.

Maybe

Not sure yet.

Started play in 1975 -- which makes me 'old.' Stopped regular play around 1989/1990, except with my oldest and dearest friend and a small, impromptu group. But we've been assigned to so many places and are usually thousands of miles apart...and my career has been very intense and time-consuming.

So, I've experienced all the Editions...but my interest has been waning since the late '90s. Kept up with Dragon, though.

I'll give this 4e a shot.
