You're asking this question of a fan of the 1st edition classic adventures, so you may receive a biased answer when I tell you ANYTHING MADE BEFORE 1985 is worth downloading. :)

I wouldn't quite go THAT far. There were a few bummers before 1985 (B8 Journey to the Rock and X6 Quagmire! for example... Blargh!.) However, I generally agree, that the vast majority adventures from before 1985 are, at the very least, worthwhile, if not quite good. My favorites:

B2 Keep on the Borderland
B4 The Lost City
X1 Isle of Dread
X2 Castle Amber
I1 Dwellers of the Forbidden City
L1 Secret of Bone Hill
S3 Expedition to Barrier Peaks
S4 Lost Cavers of Tsojcanth
WG4 Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun
T1 Village of Hommlet

R.A.

My favorite from this period was a two-parter C4 and C5: To Find a King and the Bane of Llewellyn.

Very intricate multi-part puzzle for players to solve

The short answer is: For the World of Greyhawk (and generally, adventures), anything by Gary Gygax. For the Forgotten Realms, anything by Ed Greenwood.

I've really come to appreciate the .pdf format of the books available at RPGNow, being especially drawn to the cheap price tag connected to the old TSR stuff. I'm looking for any opinions about what some of the older gamers (you know who you are) think about the 2nd or even 1st edition AD&D stuff. What were some of the best adventures or grand campaigns available now on .pdf? If anybody knows of any good sites with reviews of older products, I'd appreciate that too.

The supermodule GDQ that goes from giants to underdark to spider queen is pretty cool and classic. So is the slavers series, although there is a party captured scenario to work through.

I'm a fan of the ravenloft module Feast of Goblyns. I have both the original ravenloft CS boxed set and the later hardcover denizens of dread, the orginal is much cooler.

Dark sun is a very different campaign setting, high psionics, high level, high magic almost no metal. I prefer the original boxed set, dragon kings, the DS monstrous compendiums, Earth Air Fire Water, and the Psionics supplement. I can't comment on the modules since I never had any of those. The later boxed set has a revision to 2e psionics but the setting has been messed with a lot.

Birthright CS has a neat kingdom running system with resources and money and divine right to rule.
