As i am not an owner of Magic of Faerun, what are the requirements for this class? The campaign i am starting probably won't get to too high of levels so if the reqs are too high i wouldn't be interested.

Race: Gnome (or human from the Lantan region).
Skills: Alchemy 3 ranks, Craft (armorsmithing, blacksmithing, gemcutting, locksmithing, metalworking, trapmaking, or weaponmaking) 8 ranks, Craft (any other two from the previous list) 4 ranks, Disable Device 2 ranks, Knowledge (architecture) 4 ranks, Kowledge (engineering) 4 ranks, Profession (apothecary, engineer, or siege engineer) 3 ranks.
Feats: Lightning Reflexes, Skill Focus (any of the above Craft skills).
Spellcasting: Able to cast 1st-level arcane spells of the Illusion school.

Gnome artificers are cool.

If I remember, what they're about is making some machinery that mimics spells in non-magical ways. I think they may pull on some Plane of Shadow stuff for that, so that's why the prereq. of illusion spells.

Basically, what is the class about? Technology instead of magic?

Pretty much. The class specializes in making technological items that mimic the effects of spells. The Artificer has a certain number of artificer powers known (sorta like spells known), and they are then able to create devices with those effects. For example, they could make a crossbow that fires acid bolts with the exact same effect as an Acid Arrow spell. Or a pair of gloves that spray a flammable liquid, which could mimic a Burning Hands spell.

The effect is nonmagical, so it functions in an antimagic field, and it can't be supressed or dispelled. And classes that must refrain from using magic items, like the Forsaker, are free to use artificer devices.

Overall, it's a fun, interesting class. Though, like most prestige classes that focus on item creation, I'm not sure how effective a PC Gnome Artificer would be...
