On average, how much damage do your party fighters do?

Should your half-orc be averaging 16 damage? 2d6 = 7, +7 (Str), +2 (Weapon Spec) = 16.
Wow, how would he get a +7 Str by 4th level? A +4 Str is a lot, still, even for a Half-Orc Fighter.

He said the half-orc has 21 Strength. That's +5 modifier. He uses a greatsword (has Weapon Specialization greatsword) -- a two-handed weapon, so 1.5 mod for damage = +7 damage. I assume he has a base 18 in Strength, +2 for half-orc, +1 for 4th level = 21.

A +4 becomes +6 with a greatsword.

Ah, I totally missed that. Thanks.

That seems low. My human paladin of 4th level averages 10 points of damage with his greatsword (14 Str).

[Edit: You changed it from 12 to 13 damage as I hit reply.]

Shoot. You are right. I forgot to figure in the 1 and a half modifier due to the greatsword being a two-handed weapon. :\ Oops.

I have a 3rd level barbarian at the moment with a greataxe +1 - on average the damage is 10.5 damage, but this was 25 point buy so Str is only 14. It looks a little better when raging, which, with Extra Rage is pretty much every combat, and the average is then 13.5.

Ritual Warrior with greatsword (up to a 20 strength now thanks to +1 RW modifier and +1 at 4th level) so he's already got a base +7 to damage and average of the greatsword would be 6.5 so 13.5 per hit.

Scout with bastard sword and 18 strength so +6 from him and 5.5 from sword + 4.5 from skrimish ability so about 16 from him.

I play a hill dwarf barbarian 1/fighter 11 who is specialized in the falchion. Unless his opponent has an unusually high AC, he power attacks, doing 27 points of damage per attack on average. He crits about 30% of the time (falchion + Improved Critical) for an average of 54 damage per crit when power attacking.

+3 falchion +22/+17/+12 (2d4+12/15-20)

or

+3 falchion power attack 5 +17/+12/+7 (2d4+22/15-20)

or

+3 falchion power attack 5 whirling frenzy +17/+17/+12/+7 (2d4+22/15-20)

I haven't played in a DnD campaign with balanced magic items in a long time.

In one campaign, I was a 7th-level ranger who did 1d8+10 + 1d6 fire damage to opponents who were not my favored enemy and who were more than 30 feet away. Then again, the bow itself was worth 98,000 gp, and that's not taking into account ridiculous amounts of stat-boosting items, etc. I practically single-handedly killed the last boss monster beofre the big change. After the time travel (long story) and the removal of magic items, I was doing 1d8+1 damage.

In a Modern campaign I'm wrapping up, I have a martial artist PC who does 1d10+4 damage per hit (and can attack 4 times per round ... he just reached 13th-level).

In a D20 Modern campaign I'm just starting up, which takes place in Three Kingdoms China, I have a 5th-level PC who can do 2d6+7 damage a hit. (Three helpings of Melee Smash helped.)

It varies a lot. My 4th level barbarian has Str 17 uses a +1 greataxe and does 1d12+5 or 1d12+8 when raging. But he is almost always enlarged and bull's strengthed, so it is often more like 2d8+10 or +13. So I'd say he does between 11 and 22 on average depending on the situation. So the average average is probably 16 or 17.

In a campaign that I play in the archer ranger, by 5th level against out almost entirely human foes was doing rapid shot for 1d8+4 (favoured enemy) +4 (str bonus, mighty bow) +1 (point blank shot) +1 (magic weapon) +2+2d6 (human bane bow) x 2

Thus his average was 1d8+12+2d6 per shot, 23.5 x2 = 47 damage per round.

(I may have mis-remembered, and maybe he got the bane added to his bow at around 6th level - in which case his average damage per round was only 29 points.

Still enough to make the straight up fighters in the group feel sick.
