On the subject of Dark Matter

Greeting Folks,

My gaming group is looking to play some of the older TSR games. 3 members have mentioned Dark Matter as an option. So my quesion to you all is... Is it worth it to get the books and why or why not? Also how is it in comparison to Delta Green?

Dark Matter is great if you're into the X-filesy stuff. Only little problem is that it's basically just a setting for the Alternity system - not really a problem since it's a great system, but you need to buy three books instead of two (Alternity PHB, Alternity GMG and Dark Matter setting).

It would be ridiculously easy to adapt Darkmatter to D20 Modern. I totally recommend it if you want to run a paranormal modern game.

I haven't looked at Delta Green myself, but I've been told that they are somewhat similar. Delta Green is probably a little darker, but I don't know that for sure.

Personally I would get either d20 Modern or d20 Call of Cthulhu.

There is nothing in Dark Matter that you couldn't do with either of these. Plus you only need one book and you are golden. D20 Modern is probably a better buy since it is so flexable. However, if all you want to do is modern horror, Cthulhu is really good as well.
