One focus for multiple rituals?

Certain rituals, when requiring a focus, give a specific description of the necessary focus, along with a gp cost. Others, however, simply specify "a focus worth X gp".

If a ritual requires an unspecified focus, does the focus still have to be one specific to that ritual, even though it's not described? (Like, do you have to have written on your character sheet "Focus for X Ritual"?) Or could you theoretically have one focus that is used for multiple rituals? (So, could you simply pay, say, 500 gp for a generic arcane focus, and then use that focus for any arcane ritual with a focus of less than 500 gp?)

I haven't used many rituals in 4e yet, so I didn't even realize that not all focuses were spelled out until a player asked me this specific question after our last session. It's quite possible this isn't spelled out in the rules (and I don't have my books handy), so if it isn't, any prior rulings by you guys would be appreciated.
