can someone find the original announcement of the winner? I seriously thought his setting was a golden age setting, and if so then that is exactly what WotC was going for and looking for something very specific. Also, with the book of Exalted Deeds coming out, they may very well be going for a Exalted feel to their new setting...

I may be wrong, but only by finding the original announcement of the winner will we maybe find out, and I stress maybe.

Resurrecting an old thread here.

Has anyone a firm accouting of what happened to the submissions that made it into the top tier?

How many made their way into an independent publisher?

When is the WotC winner supposed to be published?

The submissions that made it to the top 3 were bought outright by WotC for $20,000; they cannot be published by a third party. Keith also recieved $100,000 as the winner. As far as I know, the world they chose will come out in the fall or early winter. Until then you'll have Sunset Kingdoms, Dawnforge, and Morningstar ;D to tide you over.

Hi RS.
Hope things are going well with you and "Morningstar". I've finished the first part of my setting, the "Sunset Kingdoms" and am now partway through the second part of the setting, "The Alfar Tower". The two are separated by 5000 years and will be published in the same book. (And I just couldn't let that 'golden age' stay golden.) I'm including an element of time travel so player's can play the same character in two distinct (but connected) environments. Players can also opt to play a distant descendent of their golden age character. I favor this style of play myself.

I'm going to put 3.5 changes into the setting in Aug and will miss GenCon. But I want to do it right. I'm shooting for Oct 03 now for printing.

Typing until my fingers bleed.

Actually, my setting was Morningstar, which will be published by Goodman Games.

We've got a similar time frame as well. We tried for June, but things happen.
It's better to get it right the first time, right?

I am astonished to see that the Golden Age thing was that big of a submission topic. It wasn't mine; my approach was "It's Day One of Creation, and you just woke up." IOW, I went even further back in the Silmarillion than some folks; Ryan Dancey did a similiar thing with his entry.

In hindsight, I realize that I shouldn't have been so surprised. As fantasy adventure settings go, playing out either the Golden Age or the events that led to it aren't big commercial successes yet; I hope that this is a variant whose time has come.
