Three of Eight power sources are out for PC classes. As a DM, if you were to restrict your game world to one source, which of the three would it be; Arcane, Divine, or Martial? (For this, assume Spellsword (arcane defender due out next month) is available).

Personally, I love low magic worlds thus Martial would be my "one source."

I'd try a mage-only game, pit a bunch of drow wizards in a deadly game of intrigue, set in Menzonberanzen (old-school one) and have them attempt to rise through the Tower Sorcere, working together to overcome more powerful foes, but also watching their backs against the inevitable backstabbing... :)

This thread in BASIC:
Code:
10 PRINT "Martial."
20 GOTO 10

Actually, I find the separation of source and combat role extremely liberating. As DM, I can now instantly give the party flavor without limiting their combat roles. An all Divine PC party would fit perfectly into any religious conflict world, while an all Arcane PC party would be interesting in a high magic game (or a low magic game).

Martial character are no longer the back bone of the gaming universe

I thought martial characters were just meat shields so the casters can shine. ;)

Obviously, martial will be #1 because it makes for a nice "low magic" game that everyone gets the urge to run/play from time to time. The fact that it has four classes in three roles doesn't hurt.

#2 will be arcane, because it's the only source with all four roles right now (if you count the artificer).

Divine will be a distant third, not because of any inherent flaw, but because with only two classes, it's not really possible to build a party out of just the Divine power source. Hopefully the I(nquisitor) and T(heurge) will change that.

Another vote for Martial, since well always preferred non-magical classes and there is a greater abundance of them available currently, plus Martial Power book is coming out in a couple months.
