As the path makes a bend, you see the staue of a beautiful elven maiden and a unicorn standing close to the edge of what appears to be a small pool filled with muddy, foul-smelling water.

This is diffently a carved statue standing on a small marble base, Mr. Bubbles finds the fine lines of the unicorns muscles and the delicate smooth face of the madien fasaniting work. (and thus doesn't perceive the following, lol)

Just ahead is a strange sight. An entire group of stone statues seems to have been gathered together in one small area. Some of the statues are in pieces, the various body parts strewn on the ground. Others still stand, some leaning against each other. In all, there appears to be more than a dozen statues. They include representations of humans, and elf, and two dogs.

Ivar and Lee are first to hear the flapping of many feet before they see a strange creature run out from among the small group of statues.

It is the size of a large dog (a german shepard or huskie), but is a lizard with four legs on each side of its elongated body. Bilkar and Ryder hear it as it hisses at the group its head darting back and forth as it tries to watch everyone.

OOC: So ROUND 1: everyone roll INIT and post what you would like to do, given the chance. Mr. Bubbles doesn't get to go ROUND 1 - sorry, but roll INIT anyway for him.

Mister Bubbles knows a thing or two about art - although certainly no more than two things - from his time as a slave to filthy rich people, and he admires the statue of the unicorn and the maiden. Such craftmanship!

OOC: Init: [roll0]

Lee says, "I suspect that creature is the source of the petrification. But that's just my gut instinct."

OOC: Initiative [roll0]
Arcana?? [roll1] determine what sort of creature it is

It's an Animal Bilkar will try to talk to it of course! Other than that, since I don't imagine Bilkar has seen such a thing before, trying to figure out what it is (Nature roll? [roll1]) and holding action until it shows it is hostile

Ivar spotted the strange lizard creature, trying to remember what it was and what it did. He didn’t much like the look of it anyway. He pulled one of his handaxes in his free hand, warpick ready in his other, and threw it at the creature. He would either kill it or run it off.

Ivar's axe lands next to the creature and it dodges to the side, hissing at the dwarf as it moves to one of the statues closer to the group. It slithers under a dog statue using it and a fallen human as cover. It stares intently at the dwarf, and suddenly Bilkar cries out.

"No look! No stare! Hide your eyes!"

OOC: Bilkar has heard of stories of mutli-legged lizards whose eyes turn poor creatures to stone. Basilisk are monstrosities, so your ability to speak with them won't work, sorry.

Everyone else didn't roll high enough.

Ivar DC 12 CON save with advantage because Bilkar's INIT beat the monsters.

OOC: Yeah I knew he wouldn't be able to talk to it, BUT Bilkar would probably try just the same.

Out of curiosity would Druidcraft start a fire big enough to potentially scare this thing out of it's cover?

Minor Illusion in front of the Basilisk Int save DC 12 for anyone that wants to see through

Bilkar hisses and makes a kind of reptilian chirping noise trying to talk to the lizard before realizing that a fight was breaking out.
Immediately fallowing his words "No look! No stare! Hide eyes!" Bilkar swirls his staff around in the air seeming to draw some kind of pattern and a Rock appears filling the area between the ground and the statue, blocking the site of the Basilisk.
"Rock Illusion. Attack Through or around. No LOOK! Eye's make statues!"
