Normally, the request from a community mom to run an afternoon adventure for her son, turning 13, and his three friends, would fill me with glee. But I'm going to be slammed right up until the morning I'm running it, so I turn to the community for help. Here's the deal: 4 boys. 2 of them are quasi-regular players, and I've done a few sessions and they're solid. Two kids are total unknowns and I'm pretty sure DnD neophytes.
I want something I can run in about 3 hours of play time. Pre-gen characters will be mandatory, and I imagine deep role playing will be out (grin). But I've found true one-shot hack and slash to be a bit boring, because the loot never ends up mattering. If I was dealing with an older or better known crew, I'd run something like Monte's Temple of Mysteries, but I think that might just not work out.
There are inumerable simple little adventures I could do (Wizards Amulet, Hero's are Made, and Gorgoldands Gauntlet) but was hoping someone might have an 'aha!' moment here for me.
Anyone played a really fun Con module they think would work?
