One-sided Character Sheet

First Post
After looking all over, I realized I couldn't find a one-page one-sided character sheet. So, I made an attempt at putting something together. Unfortunately, all I've really got to work with is Microsoft Word, not Publisher, so it's not exactly how I'd like it.

Basically, the sheet is meant to be used in front of you at the game table. I got rid of all of the boxes used for calculation, and the RP info. I figured that people can just use the normal character sheet for calculating, and that they know their character's RP information, feats, equipment, etc. offhand. I gave encounter and daily powers a larger area to work with, as they tend to be the more complicated powers. The little boxes are so you can mark off whenever you use a power.

Not bad! You are missing a few boxes, though, like initiative, feats, racial traits, resistances, saving throw bonuses, movement speed, magic items... Also, I like that you gave bigger boxes to the encounter/daily powers but I'm not sure they're big enough still. But maybe they are.

I love the removal of the "calculation" boxes. Those things are a huge waste of space on a typical character sheet.

Well, I did make this at something like 4am last night :D As far as the daily/encounter powers, it's meant to be written in a way that you remember what it does w/o being incredibly detailed, so for example "Burst 1 w/in 10, +7 vs AC, Hit: 2d8+6dmg, dazed (SE); Miss: 1/2 dmg, dazed 'til end of next turn". Typed out, that easily fits in the box, and I'm sure many people have mastered the art of cramped writing...

  • Oops! on missing speed and initiative.
  • What about a "combat notes" box to track things like "+1 to hit bloodied creatures", "+1 to saving throws" etc? I think that'd remove the need for a feats list, racial features list, resistances list, etc etc.
  • For magic items, what needs to be put on there? I assume you could put the abilities of them in the powers boxes, so does that mean boxes to track usages?
EDIT: Uploaded a new version. How's that?

That's really good. I like the "Notes" idea, although the box may need to be bigger. Consider all of the idiosyncratic racial traits, class features, magic item properties, paragon path features, and feats a character has. It's often easy to forget about these if they're not staring you in the face. (A lot of these should have been phrased as powers and could probably go into those boxes. I think a fundamental design flaw of 4e is the plethora of triggered and conditional abilities and the fact that they are not called out well on the character sheet.)

Unfortunately I don't see any good place to expand the Notes box! You might be able to shrink the HP and Surges Used boxes, but given the layout I'm not sure how that helps... You might try putting the at-will and utility sections side-by-side, and breaking the skill list into 2 columns, to squeeze in a little more space along the top.

Anyway I like the simplicity of this sheet, so combining all those weird traits and features into 1 box sounds good to me.

Yeah, I like the Notes idea as it's nicer to have your reminders in one spot rather than scattered across the sheet. As far as making more room, I could move the at-will and utility powers boxes down a tiny bit, which would net about another line's worth of space.

Keep in mind though, the Notes section is actually about twice as big as it looks, as there's nothing stopping you from writing all the way from the border of the page down to the top of the at-will box. I realized that after trying to figure out how to get more room, and it suddenly seemed a lot bigger. It won't look as nice to have it go that far into the top border, but it does offer the option for characters with a lot of stuff to keep track of.
