Sorry. Thats an urban myth. It sounds good but apparently the holidays actually are a time of good cheer. Reading the actual numbers might even suggest suicide rates possibly go down on holidays. :)

thanks for the link, that's nice to know.

from my experience, 2 outta 3 were around the holidays.

That's interesting, and the article is very persuasive.

I have to say that the holidays are very depressing for some people nonetheless. I remember some of my childhood holidays were very depressing. Of course, the holidays were not the root cause, but the fact is if you are depressed the holiday season can make you even more depressed, sometimes.

Probably check ENWORLD out on XMAS eve and XMAS day, family ain't visiting until New Years so I'll still be slightly bored on a holiday which is supposed to be busy.

Ignoring the holidays, you still have S.A.D. people in the winter months as well.

That holidays are depressing for some people is an undeniable truth. The point is, I think, that statistically they are no more depressing than other times and may actually relieve some depression during the fall and winter months. Or, as pointed out by the article, social interaction is one of the best cures for depression.

As I am Jewish, I should be here unless I am visiting some of my friends.:)

Dragongirl, Buttercup, sorry for the losses in your families. Hang in there, and remember you are not alone.

I'll be home for Xmas (just me and the cat) so I'll pop in from time to time.

I'll also be home for New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and my 30th birthday on the 8th... so the above doesn't seem so far from the truth to me. It's been a heck of a crappy year, but I plug along day by day, and I'm getting somewhere. However, if this coming year starts being worse than this one, I'm going over Niagra Falls in a barrel. ;)
