so...

...if your GM was nice/crazy enough (and had the free time) to maintain a website for an ongoing campaign, what would you want it to contain?

As a starter, I guess house rules & session/episode summaries would be good, but what else...?

:)

As GM/DM, I'd place all of the homebrew setting info the players should reasonably have access to on the site, including the map if there is one. Also, a full list of all books being used as resources for the campaign.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Lists and short descriptions of NPCs, places, and important things. Maybe a list of the campaign gods and their associated domains (to help potential cleric PCs, especially).

Perhaps abbreviated versions of the PCs' character sheets (in case someone misplaces or forgets to bring theirs).

Edit: Voadam types faster.

I'm of the firm belief that interaction is key. If you allow your players to post, blogg, or generally make their presence known they will visit more often. You will not be able to add content at the rate necessary to maintain interest, so it makes sense to allow the players to participate and assist you with that.

Yeah, I was going to say, host a forum or a blog so that they can tell the story from their point of view. I am waiting *glares menacingly* for my players to do so... until then it's pretty one sided point of view... mine.

I also keep a record of experience and loot for them on my forums, it makes it easy to go back and check on things.

We've been looking to have greater player participation for our website. We are all married professionals with children. Our contributions to our yahoo.group is sporadic. When I created our webpage we looked at a wiki, but felt that it wasn't "pretty" enough, and would require a learning curve that some of us just weren't inclined to... er.. climb. This is what we have. It is still a work in progress. We sought something simple without including the kitchen sink.

Well, I'm the DM. And, yeah, we maintain a campaign website, although only two of my players actually use it.

Warning, Savage Tide Spoilers Herein!

Mostly, we use it for synopses of the adventures, quick write-ups of the NPCs (and PCs), and in-character journals. We just started it a few weeks ago, so we're still learning what's good to do, and what's bad.

I like the overall format, though. I'm going to start one up (slightly differently) for my Drasconis campaign

I would want rumors and news of whats going on in the larger world if the setting were such that it would be reasonable. Basically a "Things Heard In the the Market/Tavern/Inn" section that would help enhance the idea that this is a dynamic living world but also things that we wouldnt neccesarily want to take play time to learn.

All the details others have mentioned, but maybe even a forum where PCs could talk to NPCs 'in character' to do things like pursue romances, visit temples, and even shop w/o taking play time.
