Also, if I am not mistaken, NetMeeting only works point to point. In other words, you cant play the role of host and allow multiple users to connect to you.

Could be wrong on that...

NetMeeting does allow one to host and allow multi-user connections, which was the point of Netmeeting. The limitiation is in voice and video chat. Everything else including the whiteboard work with multiple users. By default, anyone can make calls or accept calls from others Or one individual can 'host' a meeting.

The whiteboard app also allows for pasting screen captures and uses mutliple pages that can be 'flipped' through. 'Objects' on the whiteboard can also be moved around by clicking and dragging them as well.

Thinking it over, it's a possible option for sketching map at least, and the text chat, application/desktop sharing and file sending features could prove handy.

We had a player in another city, and we used NetMeeting for whiteboarding, voice and chat. I would qualify it as "useable", also definitely not great for mapping as there is a scale issue (no hex or square grid).

I had started developing a whiteboard app myself (grids, load and save maps, drag and drop miniatures, etc.), but our remote player stopped playing. So it hasn't been extensively tested and there were some problems with the communications stack (not very tolerant of poor network performance). Anyway, for several other reasons, I put the project in my (very large) todo pile.

Vassal looks interesting, I'll check it out.

Share an excel sheet within netmeeting... just make the excel sheet into squares.
