Ontario/Michigan Gathering

As all other gamedays seem to get organized in the General Forum, I'd say this is a perfect place for it. You can also count on support from CMG in the way of prizes and perhaps some scenarios to play if anyone is interested in running something from us. Game on! :)

Chiming in

As I said in the first thread, it looks to me like we need someone to take charge of organizing this thing. I'd be willing to do the work (I've helped put cons together before), but I live in Davison, MI, which is quite a ways away. Perhaps I could pair up with someone closer to Windsor or London who could do some of the groundwork, like going to actually look at potential sites?

Anyone? Anyone?

Oh, and I'd be glad to run some games. Of course, if I'm the organizer than I wouldn't want to have a full slate ... dropping games to handle site issues is damaging to the soul, y'know. I could run RPGA games if that is a priority ...

In terms of meeting places there a number of local hobby/game stores in Ann Arbor, MI that would be willing to let us have space depending on the number of people. I know that the Underworld and Hobby Xpress (two local stores in Ann Arbor) have often let people use their space to run play games and run tournaments.

I was just at the Underworld tonight and was talking to one of the employees. He says that they can handle up to 24 people (although that seems like a lot to me considering the size of the store) and often run magic tourneys with that many people.

Ann Arbor is about 45 minutes west of Downtown detroit depending on traffic.

There is also a hobby store in Garden City that would probably be willing to host a gathering also. It is another place that hosts a number of RPGA events plus other gaming events.

Ysgarran.

Heh. I just posted to the other thread "Why doesn't someone put this in General?" Goes to show I should go *read* General first :)

If it ends up being here in Ann Arbor, I could probably help with some organizing (I help run cons as well), but could not be the main touchpoint.

I'm still happy to participate, but I'll leave the planning to others this time around. Meanwhile, I'll just cross my fingers and hope this event is ultimately planned for after GenCon. As for the location, the store in Garden City is called Old Guard if I'm thinking of the right place. They'd be a good choice, as would a couple of other stores in metro Detroit/Ann Arbor area as previously mentioned. I'd also consider booking a room at one of the local colleges (Wayne State, UofM, something in Windsor, etc.) like they did for the Ohio Gameday. That guarantees plenty of room if the turnout looks decent.

There is an Old Guard in Garden City, but I don't remember ever seeing any type of gaming room there. They really specialize much more on wargaming; their RPG section is almost an afterthought. I'm betting he's referring to Pandemonium?

Yes, that is the name of the place. It is next to the Garden City library and across the street from a McDonalds.

Does anyone know the folks at Pandemoneum that can approach them about scheduling something at their place? I've shopped there a few times, and I think they at least recognize my face (last time I walked in, the owner went straight to Privateer's Lock and Load 'coz I'd been asking about it for a while) but if anyone's a bit more of a regular, they'd probably be better off doing it than me.

All in all, though, I think Quickbeam's suggestion of trying to book a room through a local college or University seems a better idea all'round.
