D&D 5E [OOC] A Light Hearted Princes of Elemental Evil Hack and Slash

Naw, FF and Shayuri, both Damien and Maighan are too good of characters to ditch 'em. My existential angst about where Dent "belongs" shouldn't mean that others abandon wonderful characters. And, like FF, I am not at all interested in a PvP environment. I'd leave the game if I saw that was occurring. What I'm looking to do is simply slot Dent somewhere within an org so that I can continue to justify his taking levels in paladin, and so that he's not meandering the Valley aimlessly. Dent doesn't seem to me to be the sort of character who "meanders" or is "aimless." Now that he's been cut loose by the knights of Mirabar, I want him to belong somewhere, and will probably settle on the Black Company, which seems to make the least work on my end (always a good thing) and maybe give Creamsteak a new hook.

...and thus ends the development of Che Burrowfoot, Halfling Revolutionary and People's Poet. Who am I kidding? I'm definitely still working on that...

p.s. -- FF -- I've loved Damien's monologue, and have thought it was the best representation of a warlord/patron relationship I've seen. Too much fun, and I'd be sad to see him go, but I understand if you feel the joke is spent.
Oh, and thanks KS. Coming from you that is quite the compliment.

Now that I think about it, if I was going to replace Damien, the party could really use another front-liner now that Tolan is gone.

Well, if you want an easy solution, Thaliss could knight Dent (or give him a status as permitted by Thaliss' position) and make him responsible for enabling the conquest of territory and squashing enemies ;-)

Very seriously though, it would be cool to "join forces" in some way for a common long term goal (aside than being one another's wing men !), preventing PvP, and enabling a common vision. Thaliss would definitely want an ally that could take care of his army (to be assembled, granted, but that's only a matter of time).
Cheers,

The idea of a "sham" knighthood is hilarious and perfectly fits Dent (not that Thaliss or his nobility are shams, just that maybe he'd be improperly "field knighting" a warrior). The only thing that has me hesitant about pulling the trigger on implementing your idea is that I don't want to alienate the rest of the party. I've been happy to play a NE character, but the second I/we start to cross the line toward party divisiveness, I become very, very uncomfortable. Working together toward a mutual goal is in my wheelhouse. Party strife is not. If there's a way to pull off your idea of knighting and re-purposing Dent, I'm all ears. And I don't think Dent's forging a bond with Thaliss precludes Dent's making an in with the Black Company, either. Maybe we can roll both things together...might make for an interesting weave.

My goal is definitely not to create party divisiveness, on the contrary. I think it would be very easy to knight Dent: since he is now unaffiliated and does not answer to the KC in Mirabar, Thaliss would have made him an offer: his sword for knighthood, with the agreement that there is an army to build in the future. IMHO, given the speed of PBP, we are years away from any potential party divisiveness, and this would solve any affiliation issues, or lack thereof.

Hi CanadienneBacon,

So I looked into the various titles a knight can have, and the different types of knights, and I didn't find anything exciting. It seems that the only title is "Sir", and aside from the order name that can I can be creative with, there isn't much to work with.
The other point is the oath Dent would agree to swear during the knighting ceremony. I'm thinking something along the lines of loyalty to Thaliss and the house he will found, and agreement that Dent will lead the armies that will be gathered. I'm pretty much open to anything here, and would welcome your feedback. However, from what I've read, there's a definite need for an oath to be sworn during the knighting ceremony.
Cheers,

SG
