I think I just heard FF say he doesn't want to associate with anyone other than Archandros. (I don't wanna put words in his mouth tho) If that's the case, I think we're a no-go for a plot to take over Dessarin Valley, at least as a group.

I'm kinda just sensing out where others' interests lie. I'll pause my posting here a bit to give y'all a chance to weigh in. Working within our existing group toward a mutual goal is my preference. If nothing shakes out in a day or two toward that, I'll draft a new org or a Waterhaven/Mirabar patron for CS to insert. Or declare an interest in the Black Company.

There are options!

Pretty much. I think the way the party was put together kind of excludes a true mutual effort, beyond working together to complete the contracts offered to us. I think the adventure is even designed that way, with the possibility of having folks associated with a variety of the patron organizations (Zhents, Lord's Alliance, Emerald Enclave, etc) who don't really work together.

But I'm easy. If it would be fun for Dent and Thaliss to start scheming between them to take over the Dessarin Valley, I can draft a new character. This seems like it would be a good place to insert one. I'd be hesitant in continuing to play Damien in a group with another set of "we promise we aren't evil" characters intent on taking over the Valley. I think the RP would lead to a PvP type situation (not necessarily combat, but still adversarial) of which I really wouldn't want to be a part. Creamsteak could certainly spin Damien off, maybe he'd become an adversary down the road.

Maighan's goal is to find out about these druids, which will (I anticipate) lead her to finding out about the elemental cults, which will lead her to oppose them and try to eradicate them.

That pretty much sums up her goals as far as this area goes. She's not here to cleanse the area of evil...just to eliminate a bunch of people who are mucking around with the balance of natural forces. So she can work with morally grey, even darker-sided grey, on that. But I don't think she'd condone working with folks who are eying the conquest of the valley if she was aware that was on the table. :)

She probably wouldn't just go straight to violence, because if she dies fighting a few upstarts then her mission with the cults fails. She'd just leave y'all to your devices and find another bunch to work with.

Certainly allying with a cult wouldn't fly with her.

Note, please understand, I'm not saying this -in any way- to be petulant, or threaten, or try to make a demand. I am personally fine with taking that direction as a group, but if that's the decision...I'll need another new character. :)

No, I totally get it. When the game first started, I went all-in on the concept that it was going to be a hack-and-slash, light-hearted deal. I felt pretty comfortable positioning something of a joke character who is evil, but pretending to be good (or at least neutral) in order to ally with others to clear out the evil in the Valley to make way for him and his master to take over (all which would happen well after the adventure was over so that there wouldn't be any actual PvP stuff going on). I figured it would be pretty entertaining to play an evil goofball that no one ever really questioned but that the "audience" would totally know was evil based on his inner monologue. It lost a bit of its potential amusement when he ended up in a party without much in the way of good.

If we're getting deeper into characterizations and not just goofing off, I think we might run into tensions if we're going to try to play true to our characters personalities and goals. At least, that's how it looks like it would work out to me. I'd be happy to put together a new character to try to avoid at least some of that.

lol...yeah. You know it's funny. Maybe it says something about 'the gaming mind,' but when we joined a light hearted game, we immediately made it one of the grittier, more serious-minded games I've been in. Apparently by accident. :)

I would like to continue with Carradoc, whatever happens. I've kept things lighthearted and so am not overly committed to any of the factions. If anything, I feel I've been pushed to NG or perhaps LN from true N by virtue of the others in the party (action provoking my reaction, I guess). He won't be slaughtering babies, but he will be fine whichever direction this goes.

p.s. -- FF -- I've loved Damien's monologue, and have thought it was the best representation of a warlord/patron relationship I've seen. Too much fun, and I'd be sad to see him go, but I understand if you feel the joke is spent.
