I would have thought that Magic Missile was a case of an attack hitting and doing damage without a roll. (I'd also think spells that require a save, such as Sacred Flame should apply. I'm AFB right now, so that's just a gut response.

I'm of the interpretation it requires an attack roll. Until the spell ends, you deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage to the target whenever you hit it with an attack. I'm fine with you changing cantrips.
