Sneak attack cannot be non-lethal, yet I cannot steal without sneak attack.

I'm afraid if I attack we'll get blackmailed with Mr Blacks life. ( mail == life? )

And it is questionable if we can take 6 of them with the caster outside.

Also, a bit meta, they might be just a quest givers

I’m not sure what my options are. The spell says I won’t do anything I find harmful. Following thugs to the gate so I can get incarcerated and tortured seems pretty counter to what Mr. Black would find reasonable and safe. Especially since she dressed like a devil worshipper.

That said, I don’t want to game the system. He’s being warned he is under a compulsion so he’d be looking for any opportunity to break the spell - even though he doesn’t know what the spell is doing.

So maybe his reasoning is,

“I’ll agree to go to the gate and that will give allies a chance to regroup and ambush them.”

Which seems reasonable in his mind.

In any case, I think I’ll delay until everyone goes and then “go with her to the gate.” Which is the suggestion.

PS: my personal take on the spell has always been the wording: “I suggest you go with me to the Gate”

I mean, flavour-wise.

Your defense sounds reasonable, a counter point is that the phrasing is friendly, the six people haven't done a single thing to hurt any of you despite being attack and are only asking for your surrender. Also they mentioned the gatehouse which is where people are taken to be helped not tortured.

@Steve Gorak make a jump chech for rao dc is really high for the height, you can also use any spells and a ride check to prevent a hit if you fail.

To be fair, Mr. black is a Clueless so he has no idea what the Gatehouse is. Only that the guy we are looking for was last seen there and has since disappeared. That doesn’t seem very friendly
