Oots 0729 - No Real Shocker

I used to have OotS on my list of webcomics that I check in with on a regular basis. I have since switched to only reading it when I see ENWorld threads. I occasionally miss an update this way, but find I enjoy the strip much more when I have no expectation of ever reading it again.

RSS feed!!

Seriously... If you're chasing down your comics, you're doing it wrong. Let them come to you.

Well OoTS hasn't been on regular updates for a while. The Creator has an illness, though not deadly at all, leaves him bed-ridden regularly.

It's about communication, though.

If there's only going to be 1/week - that's fine as long as that's the stated expectation. It's the randomness and lack of communication that causes frustration.

In my opinion, to eliminate the frustration by whiney fans like me, an expectation should be established (1/3 days, 1/week, whatever) and then if that is unable to be met due to some circumstance, post something that says so. (He used to do this.)

He writes a great comic (obviously, or no one would care), but he makes it challenging to be an enthusiastic follower.

Hehe, then you wouldn't like following Gone with the blastwave, that's for sure ;-P Gone with the Blastwave - Type E webcomic. 4 strips within 2 months? That'd be like a goddamned chanukkah!

I have a useful trick for you though - RSS feed dragged into bookmarks toolbar with edited out name. I have a small icon in my FF, and from time to time I click on it which unveils a list of latest strips. And sometimes, there's a new one, yay!

Thing is, he has communicated the reason..

check the 7/7/2007 entry. Don't know about you, but I wouldn't post over and over that I'm sick and might not meet the 3/week goal every week...he posted it once, that should be good enough.

Besides, it's easy to follow all my web-comics. I have them all in a bookmarked folder, then select "Open all in new tabs' to open every site every day...if nothing is new, I just close that window and move on :) (I use firefox, don't know if IE can do that open all in new tabs funcion).

That's what I do, too.

I figure some would prefer regular updates on whether there will be a comic or not, but I think Richs problem is that he doesn't know, and if he can't put up a comic, he can't update the website either. Besides I am not interested in reading "No comic this week" every week. Doesn't improve my experience or enjoyment one bit. ;)
