Belar has, at most, only a few more months to live. Perhaps this is where he will end it? Also, I expect that Elan et all will be watching the games with his father when Roy and Belar enter the ring. Should be interesting to watch.

If Durkon makes it to the palace, he should be able to share his knowledge, meaning that Elan and his father (Tarquin) should therefore already know that Roy and Belkar (doesn't his name have a letter 'k' in it?) are prisoners.

Depending on how much pull General Tarquin has, he might be able to get their sentences commuted. Probably depends on what's funnier, or more dramatic, or both. (It might also depend on what 3E spells Rich hasn't had an opportunity to illustrate yet: if there's a neat spell that makes a great pun in an arena setting, the sentences probably won't be commuted until after the spell is cast.)

So they die in the arena, or (even quicker) commit suicide, and then get raised. Simples!

The lives may be replaceable; their gear is not.

And really, Roy was just raised. Even if this one is actually quick, I DON'T want the story going there again so quickly and trivially.

(If I were Roy Belkar right now, I'd probably just try my luck killing off the judge and as many in the court room as possible. If you're screwed anyway, may as well take some of the actual bad people to hell with you, instead of a bunch of other gladiators also likely forced to fight to the death for petty crimes.)

I definitely expect this to happen. Just think of the drama! These games are almost certain to be part of the entertainment at the upcoming banquet. Maybe Elan will actually realize his father is evil here, though it takes a lot to get through his thick head. I wouldn't mind seeing Belkar get chumped in the arena either, as long as Rich doesn't take too long on a res with him (there's less reason for him to do so).

I'm thinking possibly their sentences will be commuted because of Draketooth. I would imagine Draketooth, who seems to be a CN anti-authority jerkass, if probably a very wanted man in the Empire of Blood or maybe an enemy of the state. Tarquin might commute their sentences in exchange for bringing Draketooth in or something along those lines, which would give him an excuse to free them, and bring the party back together. Plus there's probably at least one trope in all of that for him to enjoy.

Also, I think it's about time for Nale to show up again. And Thog!

I can't seem to find it, but did that quote mention if he's going to be dead forever? I remember it had some language along the lines of "not breathing anymore".

572 as "Belkar will draw his last breath - ever - before the end of the year." preceded by "At any rate your pal isn't long* for this world, so I saw no reason not to have my fun where I could"
I can't find the original strip either, though.
That said it does play nicely with what I think the beast in the dark is and how that's gonna work with the story. No spoilers though.

*that's what she said.
