I get a feeling that Tarquin is a Rogue/Fighter/Dashing Swordsman and actually is somewhat min/maxed (like Ftr 4 for weapon specialization definitely). It would make a nice change from his sons.

So Tarquin can fight after all. Ah, well, so much for that theory. I take comfort in the fact that I was indeed onto something with the observation that he'd been avoiding combat--he was setting up another dramatic reveal. :)

Not only can he fight, he can fend off Elan (likely a level 12-13 bard) with a dagger. A simple weapon for which Tarquin probably doesn't have focus or specialization. And he just used it to disarm Elan, despite the penalties for weapon size difference and such.

He's a damn good fighter.

Does this mean that Tarquin has levels of Dashing Swordsman?

I don't think he needs them. Dashing Swordsman, I believe lets Elan use his Cha bonus for damage when he makes his puns. I wouldn't be surprised if Tarquin has enough Str that he doesn't need such bonuses.

I was fairly sure something like this was going to happen. Elan would try his puns, and they wouldn't be that effective against Tarquin.

It looks like Tarquin is engaging in a bit of cherry tapping here.
