He's almost certainly tactically optimized to face spellcasters and interrupt spellcasting.
Doesn't matter that much. Durkula gives him AoO from movement, then can safely cast unless Roy has recently taken combat reflexes. Durkon knew the group has LOUSY will saves which is why he's likely to lead with OP Planeshift if that is an option.

But sometime I think I'm the only person who wants Rich Burlew to go all J. R. R. Martin on the Order Of The Stick.

I was just leafing through the pages when I noticed Haley making a comment. in comic 910 she says in response to Elan's comment:

E: Yeah! Durkon's back!

H: I thought that would take at least another 100 pages

My thought is this: Durkula is not Dukon, but that other being/cleric of Hel, Right?

We are hoping for Durkon to break free, for the the most part, right?

What if Durkon breaks free at comic number 1010 by coincidentally coinciding with Belker's sudden and inevitable arrival?

Remember that when he was dead Roy learned a feat for disrupting spellcasting: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0886.html
 which is why a wise caster moves, drawing an AoO before casting.

Not really, ass-pulls just to give the protagonists a chance are a lousy way to attempt drama. Durkula has to go through a Stake 'n Bake then Durkon has to be Resurrected to have any influence on the mortal world.
