OotS #372 is up

I've always considered paladins truly fearless; it makes sense to me that a god will make a weapon who has no fear of death. Because that's what paladins are: weapons crafted to destroy evil. A weapon shouldn't fear death.

Not all paladins are like this.

Come on, xykon. Don't go soft on us now. Kill her!

To be honest, I thought Xykon was far too indifferent to other people to even care about whether it is more evil to let her stew on Redcloak's retort for a while instead of killing her.

Just get the distraction out of the way and raise her as an undead, preferably a major and sentient one. It would be way cool to watch the faces of the Roy and his cronies when Miko stands between them and Xykon as an undead foe. With all her righteous wrath agaist the OotS preserved.

Brilliant analysis of the paladins!

"Maybe that's why you paladins are so full of yourselves. You're immune to the fear that you might be wrong."

I've always played it as an immunity to fear effects. A paladin can still be naturally afraid, suffer from self-doubt, etc. Otherwise, they're kender with the Smite ability.
I go with the current interpretation of Hal Jordan (the original Man Without Fear): He *does* feel fear, but has the willpower to overcome it.

That was great!

ps - In my new campaign, I've transmuted Immunity to Fear into +4 on saves vs fear, for exactly the same objections that Redcloak raises.
I've got a very minor house rule, maybe it just qualifies as a house flavor because it doesn't actually change any rules.
Paladins are not immune to fear, but they are immune to all of the EFFECTS of fear.
In game mechanics terms, this is no change. But now paladins feel fear of all types just as much as anyone else does. They just don't respond to it.

Edit: and reading further into the thread I see I'm late to this particular party. :D

Redcloak has become one of my favorite chars recently. And I kinda like Miko too, especially in the light of how she's been shown in the recent updates.
