I'd've said they'd be better off doing it the other way round - Durkon toasts the dragon with anti-undead magic, bringing it down to ground level, then Roy takes on Xykon.

That would work too... I just want to see Durkon throw down some heavy artillery ala that Call Lightning business.

Bah, V should toss a disintegrate at the dragon and kill it in 1 round. Two disintegrates if necessary.

It's a dragon. It's quite wider than a horse, possibly making riding with legs akimbo rather uncomfortable and undignified.

Being dead, Xykon probably doesn't care too much about comfort (it's not like his muscles will ache, since he doesn't have them anymore), but undignified? Of course, he did ride in a sort of pram for a while, in front of his hobgoblin troops, so...

Is it just me (and my love of clerics) or does anyone else think Durkon should get the uber-hit on Xykon? Don't get me wrong.... Roy should totally pwn the dragon, but Durkon should blast the lich in a titanic good vs Evil deathmatch.

Nah, that wouldn't be reasonable IMO. Xykon is the boss; it takes a party to take him down. (Well, at least it should.)

Too bad Xykon has only two (or so) named NPCs, and they're nowhere near him, either.

I agree with the party thing, but SOMEONE has to get the killing blow. and face it, wouldn't it be awesome to see those two square off?

I know Durkon is the party bandaid and all but in a massive all out battle with the undead he should get at least one of those "DAMN!!!!!" moments.

He's done that multiple times already, especially against Leeky Windstaff.

As for Roy taking down Xykon, he's using the wrong weapon. He should have got that big wooden club enchanted instead.

Consider the damage he's doing to the dragon with each blow.

2d6 (two-handed sword) + 5 (+5 enchancement bonus) + 2d6 (undead bane) + 5 (est. 16 str) + 12 (est. power attack for 6) + 2 (Roy is known to have weapon specialization) = avg. 38 damage.

Roy is presumably about 13th level. Unlike a zombie dragon, he probably can't power attack and still consistantly hit Xykon, but just unloading a normal full attack is like 78 damage.

And assuming Xykon is roughly a 17HD lich, he's only got 111 or so h.p.

Except, Xykon has DR 15/bludgeoning and magic. So instead of doing about 26 with each blow, Roy only does about 11 to Xykon. Roy needs at least 4 full rounds to take down Xykon by himself. And Roy can't be expected to make his saving throw every round against save or die effects, even ones that have Fort saves. Besides which, Roy even with the save took like 29 damage from that. Roy is just waaaaaaayyyyy over matched going one on one vs. a CR 19 creature, even without a zombie dragon thrown into the mix.

I just want to comment on the awesomeness of Rich showing the dragon beating its wings from panel to panel.

And Xykon should be having a hard time casting a spell while his mount moves (Concentration checks and no Con modifier).

I just caught something from that panel I missed the first time.

Roy's dad is busy beratting him on how ineffective his fighter training is against an undead, but the plan his dad mentions - turn Xykon into a frog - won't work either because Xykon is as a lich immune to polymorph.
