which still requires combat expertise as a prereq. and int 13. we can assume he has the int.

but combat expertise ain't normally a feat for a lich, is it?

Roy's player wasn't paying attention and missed out on it. The DM simply neglected to mention that he could take one... That's most likely, considering the conversation going on at the time would be pretty distracting to both.

When did we first get the back story on the lich killing Roy's Dad and what not?

I think there was a flashback panel showing the (not yet) lich Xykon killing Roy's Dad's master when Roy's dad was a lowly apprentice. Then Roy's Dad swore revenge, and Roy is continuing the tradition, albeit through a method that Roy's dad thinks is stupid (fighting instead of magic).

I don't think we have yet heard how Roy's Dad died. Could have been simple old age.
